Kapuskasing - Shots fired after OPP responds to stolen vehicle report

A 38-year-old from Kapuskasing has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at approximately 7:13 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) James Bay Detachments responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Municipality of Val Rita-Harty.

Officers attended the area and located the vehicle. As the officers began their investigation, and during the encounter with the suspect, police firearms were discharged.

A 38-year-old from Kapuskasing has been taken into custody.

No injuries were reported during the incident and there is no further concern for public safety.

The investigation is on-going at this time. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
