My epic fathersday gift was ruined, but great customer support saved my marriage.

The gift of gifts

So you may or may not have read my 'epic super early fathersday' post. On that most joyeus of joyeus days, I was given a Bestron AMG600 electrical meatgrinder, so I could grind rib to make proper burgers. I was happy as can be with my new toy, so, naturally, I used it straight away to grind some nice fatty rib from a proper butcher (another fathersday gift from my thoughtful wife).

Grindhouse

It worked perfectly. After using the machine to grind the meat I dismantled the parts that the meat had touched, the feedingtray, the grinding cylinder, the cutting blade, grinding disc, locking ring, well, basicaly everything but the main electrical body. Then I gave them a good rince in the sink and put them on the side to clean after dinner.

After enjoying some great hamburgers from the grill, having drank some coffee and having put the kids to bed, it was time to go and clean the parts of my new best friend with all the love and care it deserved.

A Nightmare on Mystreet

That's when my heart skipped a beat (or maybe even more then one to be honest). The parts of my very new, very awesome Beastron were nowhere to be found.

Beastron, a nickname I shamelesly adopted from my friend @exyle , who also calls his Bestron 'Beastron', and is in fact the one that recommended this one to my wife

All I found when I got downstairs was the main body, looking all forlorn without it's better parts. A beast with no claws. The entire kitchen countertop in fact was shockingly void of objects.

Next thing I know, more sound other then my own blood rushing through my body returned to my ears. amongst them was the sound of beeping ... Beeping .... the dishwasher was finished ... Oh my god ... She didn't !!!!!!!!!

I had read the manual before using it and it mentioned that under no circumstance are the parts to be dishwashed.

From the manual

Clean the parts in warm water with soap. The device is not dishwasherproof

  • Never use a corrosive cleaning agent
  • Do not immerse the motor unit in water
  • The device is NOT dishwasherproof

Utter destruction

With dread I opened the dishwasher. Inch by inch I was entering the nightmare.
My loving wife had indeedput the parts in the dishwasher. Piece by piece I took all parts out of the dishwasher. The nice shiney antibacterial coating had vanished. Making way for a black sootish look and feel to the bare metal beneath. They were also staining my hands black when I touched them. No way I was ever going to be able to use these parts again for their intended purpose.

This is looking more like a coalminers gear than meat processing parts

I have to admit, at this point I was seething. I was so angry and annoyed that she had so carelessly thrown my Beastrons weapons of mass destruction into the dishwasher without even wondering or asking if that was ok. Now I am usualy a really layed back kind of guy. Very easy going and shit. but when I am angry, I usualy start cleaning out the dishwasher (it was already open anyways) in a very noisy manner. Throwing stuff around just a tad bit to hard. So naturely my wife came down asking if I needed help with cleaning it out or something.

Remorse

When I showed my wife what she had done, she nearly had to cry. She was so sorry. And I felt sorry for her too, cause she had done such a great job at surprising me with this gift. My heart melted quicker than a snowflake in a supernova.
We still were one disfunctional machine richer in the household now though, so what to do ?How could we fix this ?!

We kinda dreaded asking the obvious sources cause they would ridicule her and the people we did ask had no idea. I also had no idea what query to use to search for a solution on google.
So my wife decided that the best course of action was to just email customer support and explain what she had done, hoping that they would at least have a solution on how to clean the staining black and somehow be able to still use the parts and machine.

Awesome customer support is being awesome

Let me continue now by saying my marriage was obviously never really in any jeopardy at all. What happened next though was nothing short of awesome and great karma on my wifes account I'm sure.

In reply to my wife's email, she got an email explaining what had happend (the destruction of the antibacerial coating) and how that could, unfortunately, not be restored or fixed to a usable state. They also once again stated that the parts are not dishwasherproof. But, since she had so honestly confessed as to what had happend, they were willing to send us new parts and all we had to do was give them an adress.

We're not poor by any means, but spending € 50 on the same machine twice is not something we look forward too. With two small kids, there are other things to be bought. So I could not have been happier with this outcome. I was not expecting this at all. I had even checked that morning if I might not be able to use the bare metal parts after all.

The picture I received at work from my wife. Look at that happy face.

#bestron Thanks for having the most awesome clientfriendly customer support I've seen in while.

Honesty pays in the end.
My wife and me still love eachother very much.

Now comes the moment where I can tell my buddies and we can all have a good laugh about it.

All's well that end's well.

Thanks for reading.

LOL! great story and a perfect ending. Man the dishwasher did evil to your grinder. I'm glad the awesome beastron customer service helped you out!

yeah was total takedown in there. I got returned bare metal. It was an awful moment. I hadn't expected Customer Support to be this helpful, but I sure am glad that they were.

This sort of happend to me as well. I gave my gf a kitchen machine for her to make cakes and stuff. It also came with a meat grinder, which happend to end up in the dishwasher. I didn't know the coating was anti-bacterial, so I might need to get a new one now :(
