Writing Contest Reminder: 3 Days Left (Keangaroo's She Liked It or "We worry about you")

Three Days Left to enter Keangaroo's writing contest!

keangaroo

Multiple Winners - No Limit on how many entries may earn a $5 SBD award!

No First, Second, and Third prizes for this Keangaroo contest - ALL entries will be considered for curation in our upcoming anthologies--see Isle of Write Curation Announcement!-- and the 5 SBD curation (transferred to your wallet) is yours, even if you decline publication. Please use #isleofwrite as one of your hashtags (ditch #keangaroo if you need room). Doing so increases the number of people seeing your story.

Two authors so far have chosen to forego curation rather than undergo revisions to their stories. Just to be clear, here is a reminder from the original Isle of Write Curation Announcement:

I revised my original prompt - which was already loosely defined:

Keangaroo's "Rules"
1 - Write an original story or poem which includes the words "She" (or he or they) "Liked It" (or loved it, or perhaps even hated it). The original idea was to have it end with "She liked it." But I don't want to limit you.

and

If you assume "She liked it!" can only refer to some sexual plot device, see My Previous Post in which I credit @geekorner with inspiring the prompt;
--
and

Everyone knows I am no bureaucrat with prompts, or how far the author may deviate from the theme.

Reminder #1 offered even MORE alternative and wiggle room:

That said, I will hereby reprimand @negativer for kidding around about getting disqualified for not sticking precisely to the prompt. I know he was kidding, but what if newcomers believe I'm really the type to DISQUALIFY a beautifully rendered poem? Especially from a writer who is notorious for breaking my heart with sad sh^t, as @authorofthings so eloquently coined it.

See his entry for yourself:

@negativer Over the Edge

The poem is a gem, and I love every word of it. Well, maybe not EVERY word. I take issue with just one:

I laugh as her gift covers my face

Nothing wrong with the word "gift." Certain words just get to me ("moist" is banned from all contest entries unless it's the horror genre). NOT KIDDING. (Maybe kidding a little.)

No entry is “disqualified” in a Keangaroo contest

My “rules” are so loose and malleable, they can’t even be called rules.

As a rule,

I also love the author notes that come with contest entries and posts. E.g.,

@negativer

This is a submission for @carolkean's open-ended 'She Liked It' writing contest, which allows either poetry or a story. Since I've thrown depressing post-apocalyptic fiction at her in the past, I've gone a more merciful route here. I hope.

@jrhughes

Who are you and what did you do with NEG?
I knew you had joy and positivity in you, and how lovely it came out here!
From hillock to hollow,
The wending, singing girl

I just love your word selection, this especially. Really well done, good luck!

@negativer

I save up my positive thoughts in a tiny box for months until it finally fills up, then I use those words to create something uplifting. Then I put the box away, maybe for the last time. But eventually, it does fill up again!

Me:

Good luck?

Luck is not needed. Again, I say: any number of writers entering the contest can earn $5SBD if their entry is curated for the anthologies. More than three possible winners here!

Poetry Disclaimer:

I am not a good judge of poetry. Poems for the anthologies will not be judged or curated by me. No sir, not me. But I will plead the case of any poet I happen to love. Namely, Yahia. Sheesh! With his greeting, G'day, dear @carolkean. Intriguing prompt...here's my response, it's already a good bet that I'll fall for whatever follows.

You'll get no more than that from me. Click on the link! And read the comments! As always, I love the comment section:

As a rule,

I love everything written by Inna (@authorofthings), Guy T. Martland, Negativer, and Jessica. I'm afraid to call attention to submissions lest other writers give up, feeling intimidated. But that's what the Isle is for. We won't let you feel intimidated - just inspired! The best writers inspire us to work harder at perfecting our own stories and poems.

This one is serialized, so you all can suffer along with me waiting for the next installment:

@jrhughes

*Love Struck: A Bloody Modern Fairy Tale, Part 2

I’m on my feet and by now it seems clear to me that my sister has absolutely no idea who this is, but he’s making himself at home and she’s offering him wine, and countless generations of polite female progenitors strangle my nascent protest lest I offend for no good cause.

Oh how I wish these horrible and beautifully written lines were nothing but fiction, but the truth flashes in every sentence of a @jrhughes story.

He grins and I am put in mind of the Disney fox, Honest John, who misleads Pinnocchio. My sister certainly seems to think Pleasure Island is in the cards.

Again, that's all you'll get from me. See the whole story for yourself. Feel free to upvote and resteem.

If you notice the $$$ amount some posts earn, far exceeding the 5 SBD contest award, you'll want to learn more about Curie and assorted curation teams. But not today. I'll just mention that the very first story entered in this contest caught the eye of the Curie team, and it was duly rewarded. While most of us do not see earnings like this, it is encouraging, inspiring, and uplifting to know it is possible. It is something to strive for. To me, it's like winning the lottery, to see a prize awarded. Last fall, I won a writing contest for the first time in my entire life. Honorable mentions, yes, I'd won those, but First Place, never (until @kyrios hosted a contest with 5 SBD as the award). The dollar amount doesn't matter. Being first doesn't matter, or I'd have given up years ago. When it happens, though, it's such a great feeling! Happy Dancing!

Ah yes. I love your passionate and varied posts. Thanks for mentioning my submission @carolkean :)

And I'm so glad I didn't use 'moist' in my entry. I think in combination with 'gift' I really might have pushed you....Over the Edge.

Another great contest @carolkean and thank you again for editing suggestions on this one. Here is my entry: https://steemit.com/keangaroo/@cizzo/bluff-point-she-likes-it-writing-contest
