Where my keto peeps at?

Is there a nice little Ketogenic following here on Steemit? I'll click that tag after I post to find my peeps :)

I've done keto off and on over the years, but always managed to fall back into the temptation that is doughnuts.

Each time I'd go keto, lose about twenty pounds, feel great, and then... carbs.
Two attempts ago was a different story.. I lost only 6 pounds in two weeks and felt miserable so I went off the diet.
And you know I never would go off the diet into something healthy like paleo, I'd swing right back to my carb addicted ways.

Then, I came across a new book and loved it immediately. The Keto Diet, by Leanna Vogel. http://amzn.to/2y7Rx3f
She takes a way less obsessive approach to getting into, and staying in ketosis. She addresses issues that I've wondered about from the beginning, like: Is it truly necessary to obsessively test blood, breath and urine if you feel great, and are losing weight, and fairly certain that you are in ketosis? Spoiler alert, no. ;)

She also discusses how some people with thyroid issues and adrenal fatigue are going to need the occasional carb boost once in a while. So on my last keto round I tried this method, because like the time before, I only lost 6 pounds and froze there and felt crappy. I had some sweet potatoes before bed, and woke up two pounds lighter.

I lost 10 pounds before going on our vacation to Gettysburg --now I'm the worst eater when we travel because I don't plan. So we always eat fast food. When we got back from Gettysburg I was stress eating my car woes right down my throat and there has been so much drama since then that I've still been stress eating my worries away. lol The best part though? It's been a month and I still haven't gained those ten pounds back.

So now my goal is to get my shit together and do this for more than two weeks at a time without falling off the wagon into a pile of doughnuts. ;) So I'm hoping to find some like minded people here on Steemit to follow for inspiration. I'll probably be annoyingly blogging my food for a while to keep myself on track --for accountability :)

If you've ever thought about a Ketogenic Diet (low carb, moderate protein, high in good fats) then I really do recommend her book (http://amzn.to/2y7Rx3f). Keto is especially good for those with neurological issues as well. I need this (overweight, epilepsy), my son needs this (autism, OCD, aggression, epilepsy). So fingers crossed... :)

i keep reading it does wonders with neurological repair and basically starves off cancer cells. it's truly amazing stuff.

I have a benign tumor growing in my upper abdominal muscle wall. Some days it can hurt like hell. But when I'm eating keto, it shrinks and the pain goes away. Amazing stuff :)

Jenny, I am sorry about your tumor!! your observation is spot on.
a ketogenic diet starves out cancer cells. I put together a reference page with more info.

best wishes to you!

Hi Am following keto diet since may of this year and lost 16kgs. My prediabetic glucose of 124 went down to 84 after the third month.

I need to accept I had some small cheat of having some cheesecake from coffeeshops. That's with regular sugar. Since that is my fave sweet thing, I am also making my own at home without sugar. Still working on the right combination that will satisfy my tastebuds.
Good luck on your keto journey, wishing you all the best!

Following you! :)

--and let me know when you nail that low carb cheesecake recipe! lol

Hi Jenny,

thank you for your comment on my post and for finding me. I've been researching and testing out keto recipes and methods for a while and I am happy to share my recipes.

I also have a sweet tooth and have came up with a couple of sweet busters.

although, if you are craving donuts, that is probably a sign that your body's sugar levels are low, I rbcoemdn using MCT oil when you feel that way, and it will almost instantly kill off any sugar cravings you have.

this is the most cost effective brand I use: KetoMCT Oil

best wishes to your journey into better health. :)

Thanks for the tip! I do know that when my fat intake is high enough I'm less likely to cheat. I should pay more attention to my cravings and take a hit of oil when that happens!

I just read about your tumor, and it could be that the tumor is soaking up your blood sugar causing sugar cravings. stick to the oil and best wishes!

Mmmm donuts!!!
Here is a recipe for the best Chocolate Keto donuts!

I'll try it! Thanks!

so cool. Thank you for sharing. I will have to try it!

Carbs aren't the enemy! Saturated fat and cholesterol are! Go vegan it's a way better life ;)

We're going to have to agree to disagree here. Inflammation is at the heart of heart disease. Sugar causes inflammation. Not all carbs are bad. I'm NOT an atkins girl, and we eat meat sparingly. I still believe in eating mostly plants and high quality fats. The meats I chose are grass fed, organic, local when possible, pastured.

that is factually incorrect.
