What an epic fail! Steemit.com decides to change the access to your steem wallet and does not even give its customers a warning of instructions of what info they will need for the change before it happens. Couple that with the fact that several crypto coins are rising but steem is actually falling and I think it has a little ti do with the way things are rolled out on this blockchain. Lucky for me I have all the important keys saved and the changes did not affect me that much but I imagine there are currently lots of people locked out of the wallet and are panicked. The wallet click through which takes you to another site was VERY suspicious at first glance and with crypto security such an important topic you would think @ned would do a much better job of rolling this out. I dont know how you guys feel about the Key Chain plug in but it works great in my opinion and it solves a lot of common and simple issues people have when learning how to use crypto.
I really wish we could access both the Steemit.com platform and the wallet with the Key Chain feature. Just my 2 cents.

I was a little confused at first moment as well but now it works quite good.
But!!!
I can really understand the many users who are disappointed, especially the newer users.
I don't know, is Steemit unable to act with the view of the users?
They make decisions what it makes more difficult for new users to understand how Steemit works.
Thanks God we have #Partiko now, an app what everyone can understand very fast, I recommend every new user Partiko now, everyone is satisfied.

I'm somewhat confused why they moved the wallet to a different domain, after a couple of hours of use I find it rather annoying to be redirected to another website often with difficulties to quickly get back. I wish they kept the option to have the wallet in Steemit itself. I had the brave browser installed for a while but have not yet made the switch. I'll likely do that now after this new adds update.

Keychain is great. Steemit's choice not to use it or even allow us the choice is strange.
Also, their wallet change is confusing. Luckily I have all my keys remembered, too.

. I use Brave browser to hide from Steemit adverts and will be using a wallet on another site that has keychain now that theirs is inconvenient.

I've been using Brave for anything on Steemit or that is ad intensive, while still trying to use Firefox for the rest since, that's what I've been using for most things. I'm not thrilled with it, but it's better than having all the ads everywhere. I hope this 'experiment' of theirs doesn't last very long. :)

Totally agree, and this isn't the first time they rolled out a new feature/change by basically locking everyone out. There is an option to display/download your keys, it pops up when you try to log in with the wrong key. Which leads to another problem and security risk:
The .pdf file includes your Master Password.
There is no 2FA.
So, just about anyone logging into your Steemit with a cached or auto-filled password can dl your master key without going through the usual second check.

I'm not happy because I saved my password that i was given and the would take me to steemit and showed me my persmissions. So, It never occurred to me to save the keys since that secret password got me there. I can see everything now except my owner key. Huge pain in the ass.

You can find all those keys in the steemitwallet all you got to do is log in with your active key or master key and all of them are still there, but hopefully you already have those keys backed up. I have mine in more than one location off line.

You can only find the owner key with something like beem wallet, I believe. I don’t think it matters much to have the owner key as long as you’ve got the master password. They don’t display it on Steemit.com (or now steemitwallet) for security reasons

thanks! If that is the case, then I'm all set. I have the password that I received when I signed up, the posting key and the active key. It's a total pain to transfer money or hit the internal market place though. I'm worried I have too much crypto holdings in steem. It's starting to feel like a useless project to me. I was hoping to be in it for years to come laughing all the way to the bank. Now I feel like Im missing out on better options.

Np! Yeah, I think you’re all set with those pieces of information (you may need your memo key one day if you ever get an encrypted memo).
You should consider downloading Steem Keychain and use an interface like @Steempeak/@Partiko (mobile)... for internal market, check out Steemworld.org —-> you can use the internal market on there with the keychain plugin! It’s actually a very good UI for a lot of features.
I get the frustration but I really believe Steem is the best project out there. Steemit’s development has been kind of hard to watch over the last year, but every other application is charging forward. Steem is so much more than Steemit nowadays and with all the Mira changes and what-not, I’m hoping that it will be even more so the case as time goes on. @steemhunt is crushing it right now and leading the charge for DApps, in my opinion

It is a bit weird. Steemit seems to have some trust issues when it comes to collaborating with anyone outside of Steemit.
I get the whole idea of being standalone and not dependent on other apps, but integrating keychain and properly educating users seems to be a good plan to me. It’s all open source as well. Seems like a no-brainer 🤷🏽♂️
Steemit has seemed to shift their ways a little bit in the past few months, hopefully they shift enough to realize that working with the apps/tools already built on Steem can be one of the best decisions they could ever make!

Keychain is indeed great but also has some limitation. I do use it when I am working from the laptop from home. But I am not able to use it most of the time during the day when most my steem actions are performed via the mobile!

Price I doubt has anything to do with the update. Steem ran up about a month ago and has been slowly correcting. I can post my chart if you want, but it basically is just going back through the correction from the run-up.
I 100% agree on the keychain though. Not only is it easier, but it would assist in the transition for all those that are already familiar with EOS and Eth that come to Steem.
