The Defense Department didn't quite break its August 14th spending record yesterday, but it came close with nearly $31 billion in contracts awarded. Yesterday's biggest, the $28 billion Air Force contract, is being split between 10 companies, each of which must compete for its task orders.
The work, as for many other large defense contracts, involves the Information Analysis Center program. Many government agencies run IACs including Homeland Security and Defense Systems. The network of IACs “establish and maintain comprehensive knowledge bases that include historical, technical, scientific, and other data and information collected worldwide,” according to the Cyber Security & Information Systems Information Analysis Center website.
