In 1959 in the Ural Mountains of Russia, there was an expedition led by a man named Igor Dyatlov. He and 8 other people went on this expedition and all 9 were found dead. It was found that 6 members had died of hypothermia and 2 had died of odd causes with signs of physical trauma. 1 (the female) had her eyes and tongue missing and the another had signs of heavy internal injuries but with no signs on the outside (Meaning something hit them SOOOOOOO HARD that it didnt lead to any bruising on the outside). Also found on the scene, the tents had been ripped apart from the INSIDE, no foot prints led up to the camp only away and all led to the corpses of the 9 members, and finally on one of the bodies RADIATION... high levels of RADIATION..
SO what happened?? Many theories are out there, military experiment, big foot, a love triangle among the group got out of hand, Aliens. Nothing can be proven . Insert this game Kholat. It takes on many theories and adapts it to the game.. More of the paranormal reasonings though.
How it looks:
Graphically this game is superb. Most of the environment is outside in the snow on a mountain. Some indoor parts but the game does a good job of immersing you into the mountain scene. So does the sound.. A good haunting soundtrack keeps you engaged in your surroundings.. The weather effects look nice (its no GTA) but gets the job done..
How it plays:
Nowadays horror games are all about that dont get caught or you die INSTANTLY kind of gameplay.. Alien Iso, Outlast, and Kholat all follow this same format. This game is more about your independent exploration of the mountain.. No real direction just.. Here your on a mountain... GO.. As you walk around you find journals based off the expedition in 1959. So it's really not explained why YOU the player are there solo. As you progress and creepy shit starts happening.. INSERT THAT DONT GET CAUGHT ASPECT.. Everything is a huge jump scare or just plain ol creepy looking... Controls are nothing to brag about they kept it basic.
Is it worth it? :
$19.99 in the Xbox one store.. hmmm is it worth it? I like how they adapted the real life story to a game. It gets you interested and people like me that already knew of the incident, it plays very well to creating a new theory to what happened... But a huge con of it is... well its a video game based off a true story... So it kinda goes OVER THE TOP. Takes all the logic out of the real thing. But its way better than the movie "Devil's Pass" which is a film based on the incident... Is it worth 20 Bucks???? Yes. if you like a good scare.. If your looking for a game to play over and over.. Full of action and dialogue... then pass it up...
