The young woman trapped Thursday in Montreal has made her loved ones very proud by managing to flee her kidnapper
Relatives of the 26-year-old psychoeducator abducted Thursday in Montreal by the father of a child she was caring for are impressed and extremely proud of the courage she has shown to get out of this nightmare smoothly.
"When I think of what might have happened if she had not been so cool, my heart is cracking," said the young victim's father, her eyes bathed in tears and her lips flickering. The father asked anonymity to prevent this horrible event haunts the life of his daughter for the rest of his life. However, his heart is full of pride when he thinks of how she reacted.
The day after her kidnapping, the young woman still did not explain why Ghislain Laplante, 39, would have taken it to herself.
In a chalet
On Thursday, around 9:00 am, the man said she was near her car, which is electric. After presumably exhibiting a firearm, which ultimately proved to be false, he would have strongly encouraged her to get in her car and drive. Sitting in the passenger seat, Laplante would have given him directions to go to the South Shore, taking the bridge Samuel-De Champlain. While they were stuck in the traffic, the young psychoeducator was thinking about a scenario that could allow her to escape. She was also trying to reason with him, but the man said he was taking her to a cottage "to chat," a family member said.
"She thought of causing an accident or to run at full speed coming out of the bridge in the hope of being stopped," says his father, still strongly shaken.
About 45 minutes later, she made him believe that his electric vehicle was about to run out of energy. She convinced him to go to the RONA DIX30 in Brossard, where charging stations are installed.
"Arriving, the terminals were already taken by other cars, reports his father. She told him that she wanted to go out to see if the vehicles were about to be 100% loaded, and that's when she fled. "
The young woman ran for help in the hardware store. Her alleged kidnapper would have chased her first, before turning back and trying to escape in turn.
Professional relationship
However, he was arrested shortly after on Highway 30. In addition to finding the wrong weapon, the police also discovered a set of objects that could have been used to sexually assault him.
Ghislain Laplante, a single father, had a strictly professional relationship with his alleged victim, according to relatives of the latter. The young woman was the psychoeducator of her son at the Verdun Social Pediatrics Center Les petits fades, where she worked. Laplante lives less than two kilometers away.
The colleagues of the alleged victim were shocked yesterday.
"She has shown exceptional courage, coolness, and intelligence that really resemble her, to face her attacker," Center Director General Martial Mainguy said.
