Five people, including a professor, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir state of India. The incident happened in the Saadian district of the state on Sunday morning.
The dead were reported to be members of Kashmir's separatist militant Hizbul Mujahidin.
Police said that among the dead, a top commander of former Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Waniyar is also a top commander.
Police said that Mohammed Rafi Bhat, Assistant Professor of Social Science Faculty of Kashmir University was also killed in this incident. He joined Hizbul Mujahidin several years ago.
Meanwhile, senior police official Shailendra Mishra said that Rafi Bhat was missing from Friday. Police had brought his parents to Sapian to convince Bhat to surrender. But he did not agree to surrender.
