It's been a while since I've submitted anything to a contest and I have kinda missed it. This week's #killerpix contest theme is boats, so I thought 'Sweet! I have loads of pictures of boats!'. I live not too far from the coast so I often manage to get close to a boat for a sweet pic, but for this contest I decided to pic something from a little further from home and had a look through my shots from my trip to the Maldives last October to some diving.

I Freaking Love Boats

I got lots of pictures of boats on that trip but one moment stood out for me, or I would have posted the picture I took of the boat that was resting on the sea floor at 35m depth. No, it was this shot above. It was our last dive on the very first day of the trip. Because we left the harbour that morning our dive schedule was running a little later than it normally would, so when we surfaced from our last dive of the day I came up staring at a gorgeous sunset behind a distant tropical island, then I turned to my left to see where my dive buddy had surfaced and BAM! Our boat was right there in my face. Its an angle you don't normally tend to look at a boat from so I thought it offered an opportunity for a unique shot.

The best Camera is the one you have with you

All I had with me though was my GoPro Session 4 camera in an underwater housing. As they say, the best camera is the one that you have with you, and my GoPro took a pretty decent and rather wide angle shot, with my dive buddy just to the left of the boat. I'm pretty pleased with it as its decently framed which is hard to do with a camera that is just a little cube with no screen or viewfinder to give you a clue.

This is a very memorable shot for me as it reminds me of that moment, surfacing on the first day and just feeling total contentment and relaxation. After I took this shot I lent back and just floated by the boat watching the sky and waiting my turn to climb the ladder. It was so good.

It's a matter of knowing how to take great shots. And this one is an example. 😉

Thanks so much :)

Great angle!

Thank you! :)

Great perspective and I like that you didn’t level the water with the sky! The boat looks huuuge compared to the snorkeler with the open mouth!

Thanks! Yeah I liked the perspective the person's head gives in terms of the boat's size. Its a really small boat actually, but compared to a single person, its still pretty big and if you're just floating with your head above water it can be intimidating .. especially if the boat's engines are running!

That's a stunning shot, amazing to see a boat from Water level and you did an amazing job rattle that off using a Go Pro!

Thanks! I often find the GoPro Session to be complete guess work!

I love the perspective - not one I would get!!

lol! Thanks! :)

Another fabulous shot!! It's amazing the shots you can coax out of any camera. Beautiful.

Thanks so much @artemisnorth :) I think this shot is very much a testament to the idea of always having a camera on you as a photographic moment can literally happen at any time :)
