"Singing Cicada"

This brightly colored insect, known as a cicada, was spotted sunbathing on my deck. I was thankful it stayed still long enough for me to take its photo before buzzing away.

Pretty cool looking bug, isn't it?! You might recognize the sounds they make, sort of a "Wee oh, wee oh, wee oh, weeeeeeee!" in the late afternoons and early evenings during Summer through Fall.

This is my first entry to the KillerPix Contest #2. Read more here: https://steemit.com/killerpix/@killerwhale/killerpix-contest-2-and-the-winner-is

Absolutely love it Nina, I can never see one............upv & rsd plus tip!

Thank you so much, Lena, for the bonus - that was very sweet of you! @lenasveganliving💯 Aren't they interesting looking? I wonder what the twins would think of cicada?

My pleasure Nina, I am absolutely fascinated by them. I came across one only once, many years ago, when my cat caught the poor thing. Sadly that was very unfortunate accounter. It wouldn't be much better with the twins I am afraid. They would probably think it is some kind of toy and do who knows what lol.

Lol! Yes, little boys like to pick up and play with things they find outdoors - especially bugs, where most girls run away screaming instead. You probably were one of the fearless & curious young girls @lenasveganliving!😀Your cat reminds me of my previous cocker spaniel doggy. She came inside the house with something in her mouth "rattling" and when I opened to see what was inside, it flew out! She nust have liked the way it tickled her tongue brcause she did that for weeks!!! That year we had 13 and 17 year locusts come out of the ground at the same time -quite a sight!😀

I was always an animal kid, grew up with dogs and cats and caching beetles and let them crawl on my arm lol. Your doggie definitely sounds like our cats.

I just googled the 13 and 17 year locusts, because I had no idea what you mean lol. Well now i know and I wish I would have a chance to see that someday.

Hopefully you will see a double dose of cicadas one year! Thank you, Lena!
