KINGSTON, Ontario - Two people were arrested Thursday night in Kingston, Ontario, for a national security investigation.

According to Global News , the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) led the operation with the support of FBI agents. The investigation was launched a few weeks ago, during the Christmas period.

Two raids were conducted in different locations in the city of Kingston and these actions were still ongoing in the middle of the evening.

Global News said the police may be involved in a mysterious plane that was seen Thursday by residents of Kingston.

According to the local police, citizens do not have to take special measures and their safety is not called into question.

"The Government of Canada has no greater responsibility than to ensure the safety of its citizens. Earlier today, the RCMP and other law enforcement partners took action in Kingston, Ontario, based on credible information, to ensure public safety. All comments on operational details will be made by the RCMP in a timely manner, "said Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety Canada.

Thursday night, the terrorist threat in Canada remained at the "moderate" level, the same as since October 2014.
