Curfew realization and reality

One day i decided to visit my cousin from my maternal side and as an adult i did the most mature thing notified my dad because yes i live under his roof. My dad wouldn't mind a 24 year old lady taking a break from the daily routine of being home the whole time at least that was my thought ,spent the day there in hillside with everything according to me perfectly fine i mean what would my cousin honestly do to me after all i have "bae" somewhere in my life. the day went by so fast i lost track of time and i sent him "my father"a text message at 9pm notifying him that am on my way home the response was the most shocking he was all angry to the point of giving me a curfew of 7.30pm which to me was new because you know if school is opened i usually get home around 8pm i mean you know with all the university extra activities i couldn't believe that for the first time in my life had been given a curfew. This got me to all levels of angry you could only imagine the thoughts i had. I will be honest decided to be stubborn got home at midnight just to prove a point not because i wanted to after all am not a night person considering variables like am little girly scared of the dark and also my eyesight is generally bad.

It clicked you know in the African context a girl child no matter how old they might be they are still going to be under some power of some sort. As a child she grows under her guardians and they groom her under strict observations as compared to a boy once that girl becomes a woman she will find herself in a relationship only to be under the rule of a man and is expected to get married and will be answerable to her husband. Till death women find themselves under a certain control, under a leash of a man trust me how unfortunate it is, to write knowing that in my society standing up as a woman and becoming who you being an independent woman. These communities are filled with all talk no action due to the fact that they label people who fight for themselves to be feminists and you will realize that this should not be the case. Equality begins from small things like how we treat our own children so they are able to view all female and males equally. The fact that you see women as strong beings who deserve to be heard and are worth much more than what they are seen as women are not objects of use they are humans beautiful beings who are capable of being independent just like the boy child who in the community is given much respect .

It took me to actually be given a curfew to realize the sadness in most people's lives come from the things we undermine and take for granted due to our up bringing , i felt free till the moment i was given a curfew my stubbornness kicked in gave me a new light to things. Imagine what other people go through they go through torture first to realize what they want to realize the place they are in is not what or where they deserve to be in, some people die their souls lost and some get to a point of feeling pity for themselves and their oppressors , they have the stockholm syndrome.the profound realization and the reality that struck once i was given my first curfew at the age of twenty four.
