What is Kiteboarding and where to kite in Turkey

I want a write about my hobby, Kite Boarding and give you some information about.

Kite-boarding is a new generation water sport in Turkey for last 6 years. It is combining aspects of wake boarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding, and gymnastics into one extreme sport.

Kite-boarding is a very captivating sport to watch with very spectacular performances that impress all types of spectators and it is generally associated with the notions of fun, nature, adrenaline and excitement.

Kite-boarding is a life style. It is not only tuition in the water, riders share the complete day, good times, fun and adrenaline.

There are different type of kite-boarding as below and I note which type we can do in Turkey.
Kite-boarding / kite-surfing (yes)
Snow-kiting (yes)
Wave-kiting (no exact wave conditions in Turkey)
Kite-land-boarding (rare equipment but yes)
Kite-skimming (yes)
Kite-buggying (rare equipment but yes)
Kite-skating (with correct equipment - yes)

How to learn Kite-boarding?
There are many Kite Schools on different spots in Turkey and they teach and train you very professional.
First of all you need a trainer which has a certificate of instructor. As this is an extreme sport so safety first.
In 9 or 12 hours teaching course you can get on the board and start going both sides left and right.

Where to Kite in Turkey?
Akyaka, Urla, Alacati, Gokceada, Ayvalik, Adana, Mersin, İstanbul (European Black sea side)

I want to talk about my favorite spot, Akyaka.
Akyaka is one of the best spots for kiteboarding not only in Turkey but all around the world. It offers perfect conditions both for beginners and professionals and easy access to the beach, 50 min. away Dalaman Airport is the highly preferred for travelling via plane. But also other airports of choice close by: 1.15 min. away Bodrum/Milas Airport, 2.15 min. away İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. It’s in the crossroads of Antalya, Denizli, Aydın, İzmir, Bodrum, Fethiye and Göcek.
The city centers of Muğla and Marmaris is only 20 min. away.

And also this spot is the first preference for beginners and the pro riders. The season starts from April and lasts till October. Almost every day the wind picks up early in the morning. As the wind is crucial to the sport, it inclines long teaching hours and training. Sand beach, shallow water and onshore wind creates a safe and easy environment for beginners. Night life in Akyaka is getting more funny year by year. I m sure you will enjoy with quality live music and nice people who kites all.

And you can also canoing, natural walking tracks, trekking, mounting climbing, forest camps, offroad tracks and cycling are some other hobbies and activities you may enjoy.

Akyaka is a CittaSlow so the music ends at 00.00. You can sleep and wake up ready for Kite-boarding.

Tips:
If you visit Akyaka and want to learn Kite-boarding, I suggest you to go Amarok Kite Academy which is the biggest Kite School and has number of instructors. They are really professional and so friendly.

To enjoy you can go to No:22 Riders Inn where every night different program (live music groups, dj's) and taste nice coctails.
