Watching Kitesurfing Right Outside My Window

in kitesurfing •  7 years ago

Yesterday I was resting and recovering from laryngitis and noticed a kitesurfer right outside my window. This was so awesome to see! I totally want to learn how to do this some day. I've been surfing for a long time, and I lived on a sailboat where we had two windsurfing boards I used quite a bit, so I'm familiar with the tacking involved with any wind-driven sport. I imagine kitesurfing is somewhat similar to windsurfing, though I've only ever windsurfed in a harbor.

Maybe someday I'll learn how to do this and I could connect with @roelandp to learn some things. If I lived here and these winds are consistent, you better believe I'd be out there regularly learning how to fly like this guy.

I took the video on my phone and it also includes the full view of the beach from our window and a little video of us walking down the street after lunch. My son Devon started giving commentary because he knew my voice is shot. :)

Have you ever kitesurfed before or seen someone do it live?

Hi Luke, if your in Acapulco, Mexico next year for Anarchapulco 2019?
I will go with you to take the kite-sail class with you.

Can't wait to hit those waves and sail thru the air...... :)

The island is truly blesses with some awesome views and beaches along the coast. Living there for so many years was surreal as living in paradise is tough when you have to make a living. I always enjoy my time there when visiting the family. Enjoy!

How long did you live in PR? I'm toying with the idea of moving here someday.

I live there for about 20 years! Dorado and Rio Grande are some of the best residential areas if you are interested. The economy has suffered since the financial crisis so now could be a great time to buy property there. An added bonus is the new laws (20 & 22) which provide tax incentives for those who move there and establish residence and businesses.

Wow. What a great video of kitesurfing and what a great view from your window.
I have never done kitesurfing and I think I'm too scared to try it, since I see kitesurfers here in Canada in the Okanagan on our huge lakes and it looks so amazing and it looks like so much fun, but I don't think I'll ever get guts to try it.

I'm glad to see you are doing better @lukestokes and you have a lovely family.

Thanks. I'm still recovering, but certainly feeling better. I hope my voice comes back tomorrow, though even then I'll probably try not to use it if I can avoid it.

get well soon Luke. OMG Puerto Rico is really starting to sound very interesting... Kitesurfing, the weather, the people. Now I wonder how the immigration policy is beyond US residents :)

warm greetings from community children steemit aceh and indonesia. and I've followed your post and I've voted. do not forget to follow me back and vote again.

This comment has nothing to do with my post and makes no sense and yet you upvote it? I think I'll downvote it and distribute those rewards elsewhere unless you decide to remove your vote.

This is a really good approach, I haven't seen it by now. To tell somebody that you will flag unless he removes his upvote, very well! Also, he has replied to his comment :))

Probably just a bot randomly adding trash to the blockchain and taking from the rewards pool. Makes me sad.

Don't be sad, there are a lot of them and the platform keeps going and evolving even with them. At first they will gain some followers, but eventually people will realize how unvaluable are they and unfollow them. I remember that in my first months here, I followed a lot of people that later I removed from my follow list. With time, people will become more and more educated (eventually) and we will handle like a community bots like this one that produce nothing. Until then, we will have to live with them I guess...

But again, I found the approach pretty good!

With respect, you're highly active and aware here. I wish more people were like you, but even the non-bots don't seem to get the basic truths you just outlined.

Thank you so much and sorry I haven't replied your comment earlier, I have fell asleep last night after making a post and then when I woke up, I have checked the activity that I had at that post. In the bus on the way to work I hadn't also plenty time to check all the replies, but just a few great ones. Now that I reached home, I have time to see all of them and reply to everybody. Fortunately I don't have so many followers as you do, so I have the time to talk to every user that wants to talk to me. Sometimes I wish there were people to talk with and now it seems that I got lucky enough!

Your comment makes me really happy, I didn't expected that somebody will notice this, but I have tried my best to gain as many information as I could about the platform and it doesn't even get me tired. With each and every information that I collect, I become more satisfied with myself. I really needed something to invest my brain in, and this is exactly what this blockchain is, a proof of brain.

I respect you very much and I hope that maybe, one day in this life we will meet and talk for a while. It will be interesting. If everything goes well, probably at the next Steemfest (not the one organised by Jerry) :D

That would be fun, and I look forward to it. :)

Enjooooooy every breath 😎❤️

Great view! The rocks nearby freak me out a little, crushing into one of those is fatal... But otherwise it looks like so much fun! I have a friend who is a certified kitesurfing instructor. He goes between Puerto Rico and Florida. If you live near by i can refer you.

Resteemed by @knOt - a blog designed to connect sailors on Steemit and build a fun and supportive community.

Funny you mention the rocks... one morning we saw a stand-up paddle boarder who got smashed into the rocks. It was brutal! He couldn't get outside the surf break. Thankfully he was okay, but at one point I thought I might need to run downstairs and save him.

i been there myself! scary situation...

Hello how are you? I am new here in your blog, let me tell you that you have an incredible view I want to have one so there is nothing better than the beach

Thanks. We're a week into a two week stay, and it's been amazing.

Gosh what a nice view! Your smile at the end tells the whole story :-)

I'll definitely do a kite surfing training this summer. We've got a lot of winds blowing around our little island, so I'd like to have an alternative for my surfboard on windy days. Also there is a long beach sector that is especially prepared/reserved for kite surfers, so we've got ideal conditions. I bet it's huge fun!

We can create the steemy kite community then :-))

Resteemed for the good vibes

really happy to play kites like a small time, free and loose, can reduce the burden every day

Hope your throat makes a speedy recovery.

I have seen this a few times but on ice! Yes it is a thing....

Nice Luke. Very Travel Pro! Looks like you made it to Mui Ne Vietnam! lol

Hope you get over that Laryngitis soon!

-Dan

Wow, what a stunning sight you have!
I would love to live in such a place, by the way where do you live?
I encourage you to learn that! I recently did an activity related to water (snorkeling) and I loved it, so go Luke!
By the way, I wanted to invite you to read my second post. I would greatly appreciate it if you saw it and in case you like it, I would appreciate it if you would give me a vote, a comment, or a resteem.
You got my vote and I stay attentive to your next publications. 💋

Beautiful sight, practicing kitesurfing is among my list of dreams to fulfill. I hope you get better soon from your laryngitis

Heck yes man. Kiteboarding is the shit!!

We have a few kitesurfers around here; it always looks like such an amazing thing to do! We have a lot of strong winds here, but the waters (Pacific Northwest) are always very cold so you don't see a lot of people out there.

Last autumn, I sat on one of our beaches and watched a couple of (obviously quite skilled) guys go at it for almost two hours in choppy surf; they'd go out as much as half a mile sometimes and then come back in. Occasionally, they'd take as much as 6-8 seconds of "air" and then come back down. The amazing thing was that I didn't see a single wipeout...

Excellent clip , I love my drone. Pleasure to meet you @boyerobert I decided to post a clip I made with my DJI Phantom 4. Have a look share some love https://steemit.com/photography/@boyerobert/nature-walk-at-the-skate-park

Soak it in! Looks beautiful there.

Wow! Good)

May God bless and heal you!

Nice and late but still aorth the reply..

I live next door to Puerto Rico on an island called Sint Martin, so here also kitesurfing is core business hahaha. I dont get to do it as often as I like due to work, stuff..you know

But kiting in just a wetshirt compared to full body wet suit in the 'garden' is like ultimate freedom

Hopefully your laryngitis is gone by now bro!

I hope to someday visit the islands near Puerto Rico.

Yeah, funny thing is I was fully healed up and then the last couple of days now it's trying to come back!

Sorry
