Let's talk about possibility
I once had a weak mind when it comes to believing in possibilities. I never thought that some things are ever possible. I'm sure some are still battling with this thought of impossibility just as it affected me a long time ago. I can't remember how many times I've said the word impossible. I only do the things that are very simple. Things that aren't tasking because I believe some hard ones are just impossible to achieve. My thought made me had a powerful encounter with the almighty Mathematics.
THE FEAR OF CALCULATIONS
I was one of the best students in my secondary school days which gave me a good recognition, but one thing that was a hindrance to total respect I should have merited all round was Mathematics.
This was the only subject that paints my result red throughout my days at school. I see it as something too difficult to understand. Each time we are being taught, I see professor Peller (a great magician) in place of my mathematics Teacher performing magic on the chalkboard.
Each time I see my colleagues killing the maths, I become surprised how they managed to beat the stubborn thing to pieces. The more they try to teach me the poorer I become.
I received the disgrace of my life one day when our Maths teacher intentionally called me to solve an equation. I took the chalk and gallantly approached the board. My classmates thought I was going to destroy the calculation with the confidence I used in approaching it but I solved nonsense. It was a quadratic equation using the formula method (Almighty formula). The formula was right there on the board, but I still couldn't fit in the figures correctly let alone solve the equation. I was as poor as that.
My Teacher looked at me and shook his head. Mr. Taiwo who was known as a student beater didn't touch me with his Cain, rather he battered me with humiliating words that my mates laughed their ass out.
I felt insulted and wasn't happy about it. I had already concluded not to study any course involving calculation. I wasn't good at physics too but its a bit okay because of some theories involved.
Time flew, and I was out of school. When my final result came out, I honorably failed Mathematics with credit in other subjects including physics. I wasn't surprised, but I wasn't happy as well.
A bold step
As a science student, I knew it was ridiculous not to know mathematics. This thought kept disturbing me, and I went crazy for a few days. Within these few days of madness, I purchased a form at a tertiary institution and put in for Computer Engineering knowing fully well that I needed to pass Mathematics in the preliminary exam before I can be admitted. Honestly, I didn't see it as a barrier. All I wanted was to break the yoke of arithmophobia. Truly, my friends said I was crazy because of my actions, and I never disputed it.
I was fucking determined. I bought a new Mathematics textbook and approached a statistics student at the University to take me through from page one to the end. The guy agreed and took me for a month. He was able to explain the basic points. We did a lot of change of subject formula for me to know how to break calculations to the lowest form. To cut the story short, I did my preliminary exam, scored 70% in Mathematics and was admitted. I did well in my first two years but my last two years was exceptional. I was the best in Mathematics and Electronic Courses, and I finished with a good grade.
Don't be discouraged (Nothing is terminal)
Is there anything you feel is too difficult for you to achieve? Are you already discouraged about some things you've worked on that gave you a negative result? The time to resign to fate hasn't come yet.
There are still a lot of techniques that haven't been used to approach the problem. All you need to do is work it out. There's always a way out of every situation irrespective of how difficult it is. What you only need to do is to think right in the midst of the adversity. Carry the cross gallantly and move strategically in the right direction without being discouraged.
Let me share with you the story of two frogs
Once upon a time. There live two beautiful Frogs who left their home in search of food. On their way, they missed the road and fell into a pit. As they were in the pit trying to make their way out, their companion came and saw them struggling for survival. They tried to help, but when they saw how difficult it was, they told them they were as good as dead.
The Two frogs began to jump with all their energy. Their counterparts began to preach to them to give up and resign to fate. It is a hopeless try said the Frogs. One of the frog in the pit resigned to fate and quietly died at one corner of the pit. The other one kept jumping and almost exhausted his energy. The more his companion continue yelling for him to stop and resign to fate, the more he kept jumping harder.
Suddenly, he lept with full force and sprang out of the pit. Wao!!! this is amazing. How did you do it? Why did you continue jumping harder even when we kept shouting that you should give up the impossible attempt? The Frog answered; I threw a deaf Ear at the negative words and took the yelling as a motivator to try harder.
Many have missed the track for yielding to negative words.
Unencouraging statements have pulled some people down.
Just like the second frog listened to his companion and died foolishly, many have given up. Don't let those with negative word distract you. You have the power to move on. Pick up some strength from their bold action of discouragement and alter your trial to break the ice. Life is full of ups and downs which everyone knows.
At some points in our lives, there would be some period of trials. It might be in our education, family, health, finances, work, and what have you. The only thing that can keep us moving well is to stay positive and act accordingly.
pray harder.
Never say never.
Don't give up.
Charge yourself
Feed your spirit.
Believe and keep moving.
It might seem difficult, but when you keep the movement steady, you will surely win the race.
