Knight tournament of St. George was held in Moscow
April 30 - May 2, the fourth International Knights Tournament of St. George was held on the territory of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. This is the largest equestrian competition of knights in Russia. It refers to the discipline of historical solid, where the participants of the tournament strive for maximum authenticity both in suits and in armor and use all-wood spears.
In order to make the tournaments look even more spectacular, in the XV century they were accompanied by legends. Since 2017, the Tournament of St. George has supported these traditions. This year, the legend says that the evil witch was angry when she was not invited to the opening of the tournament, bewitched the knights and sent them to distant uncharted countries where they have to fight. The one who wins all the opponents is supposed to be the Magic Ship, which will help the knights return home.
For three days, knights from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada demonstrated their skills in three disciplines of the 15th century: josting - equestrian battles between two riders armed with long all-wood spears with metal coronet tips, melee - group mounted battles on wooden maces and foot battles on steel two-handed axes. This year the list of participants has changed significantly, but there were those who are familiar to the public - Victor Ruchkin (Moscow), Boris Mashtakov, Alexei Malinin and the two-time tournament winner Andrei Kamin (St. Petersburg). The only knight who spoke on his horse was Dmitry Sventitsky from Minsk. As the herald of the tournament said, the horse's breed is very similar to those that participated in these tournaments.
For the first time in the history of the St. George Tournament, a horse race was held among the beautiful ladies, where they could demonstrate their ability to stay in the saddle, overcome barriers and the ability to get into the barrel with a flag. The winner of the competition was Elena Markova.
In between fights, you could walk around the historic fair: buy an authentic souvenir or learn to print, visit a smithy, enroll in guards, go through tests and try on a real armor. And if hungry - try medieval dishes: game on a spit, dishes of duck meat, wild boar, deer, and hand-baked bread.
Following the results of three days the winner of the tournament was Andrei Kamin from St. Petersburg, this is his third victory at the tournament of St. George.
