What is equanimous mind ???

#Equanimous mind :

It is the total balanced state of mind. A balanced or equanimous mind is free from all the craving and aversions. One who attains equanimity is free from all sorts of negativity in day today life. At this state one is also free from all the bondage and attachment in life. Here the 'attachment free' does not mean to isolate yourself from the existing situation and circumstances but to accept the realities of the present, surrounding and existing situation. In phycological terms equanimity is also defined as the mental stability. A equanimous mind is always full of peace, love and compassion.
To make a mind equanimous one has to pass it through different phases(practice) for a long period of time. Actually the time period depends upon the practitioners dedication and consistency towards the practice.

Let us list out the steps......

  1. We should always be aware of the things we are doing. We should make the practice "not to repeat" the same work that means we should train our minds "not to make mistakes". Whatever we do should be in our concern.
    "Practice makes a man perfect"

  2. We should not engage our minds in negative thoughts. As because our mind is floating, it is not stable on a particular thought so it sometimes may stop in an anti-social thoughts..... This problem is mainly faced by the adult mind. Hence during the period of adulthood one performs many wrong things unknowingly.
    "Don't perform or do things which cannot be done before all"

  3. These include......

A) Stop harming any living beings, STOP KILLING (even not an ant knowingly)
B) Never steal anything (either a piece of nail or a biscuit of gold)
C) Never tell a lie. Practise as much as possible to stop lying( either harmful or not). Respect honesty and be honest.

D) Avoid intoxication. Make your life addiction free. An addicted mind cannot attain equanimity.

E) Avoid unwanted sex. Sexual misconduct is one step ahead of all the list above.

  1. We should always tend to acquire knowledge. Mostly we should lean towards moral knowledge.

  2. This is the last and also the most important practice. This practice is based on meditation. Yes, after maintaining all the above criteria, now we can step in this practice. It is the final and most essential job to be performed. That means, now we should start meditation.
    But the question arises how ???
    What type of meditation ???
    How to do ???

The answer of all the three question is common which is "self desire". Yes exactly.
Without self desire we will never learn to meditate and no one can force us to learn, it is totally up to us. First of all we need to search about it in Google, gather knowledge on meditation thereafter start a new and unique journey in life.

If you ask me how I started ?

There are many techniques for meditation we can find and go through any one of them. But as a vipassana meditator I will prefer Vipasaana to other system of meditation. This technique was discovered by a great philosopher of 6th century BC, Goutama Buddha. For this you need to search vipassana meditation in Google and from there you will get all the links. Or you can directly go to vipassana website www.dhamma.org . To learn vipassana for the first time you need to register yourself for it and choose a centre (there are many centres within and outside India) and thereafter start your trip.

At last, we all can attain the state of equanimity.
