We united to mourn for Kobe, can we unite now?

Taking a break from the public outrage with George Floyd, I went back to a simpler time, just a few months ago, when we united to mourn Kobe.

It was easier then for all of us to unite and love Kobe. But without the ghettos and the projects, we wouldn’t have Kobe and the basketball greats of today.

As angry as I am about social injustice, I want to extend love to everyone, everywhere.

Let’s reach across the political aisle, recognize that we have not done a good enough job if even one person anywhere has been unfairly mistreated.

We shouldn’t get to pick which black person to love and not love, because you simply don’t know the impact that that person has had on the earth you lived in. Same goes for every white, asian or latino person. It’s serendipitous that we all exist on this earth at this given time.

Let’s pick each other up, encourage, embrace and vow to each other to do better.

Progress is never made by staying in your lane. It’s made by constantly learning, empathizing and making a change in your own small piece of the world.
