Koi Fish are colored variety of Amur carp. They are also called ''nishigikoi'' in Japan.
Koi fish are usually seen in a garden pond and would you believe that even in Japan's drainage canal there are koi fish?! Yes you have read it right! Japan's drainage canal are clean enough for koi fish to live.
Kids do have fun feeding and watching the koi fish.
(I am not sure if this is a drainage canal in Animal Kingdom Kobe, but looks like a canal for me)
They are omnivores (eat animals and plants).
Here are some photos of koi fish taken at Vogel Park, Matsue, Shimane Prefecture.
My sons enjoyed feeding them!
Koi fish can grow up to 3 feet!
They believe that koi fish brings fortune and success in life. Also, symbolizes wealth.
Koi fish can live 25-30 years but according to ''soft school'' they can survive up to 100 years when it is kept under good condition.
