Kingsday and the absurdity of royalty

God abolish the king

It's kingsday here in the Netherlands, meaning we celebrate his majesties birthday. Now I don't particularly care about the Royal family and find it truly absurd that there is still any credence given to the idea of royal blood. I can understand sentimental feelings that go hand in hand with a tradition gives people some kind of quaint satisfaction but I can't for the life of me understand why there is still any kind of distinction being made between us plebs and the so called royals.

Just because they've been born into a specific family and cultural tradition they've been endowed with different rights and obligations than the rest of us. It is absurd and we should end this madness sooner rather than later! Why we still allow this kind of foolishness to persist is beyond me. You won't find me in the national color (orange) today. Not because I don't wish our King to have a happy birthday, because I hope he has a wonderful time, but because I am fully against the outdated idea of royalty!
