Tips to Help You Travel to Korea #1

This article is for foreign tourists to Korea. It is split into several articles and will be posted and has written things that will help you travel to Korea. Also, if you have anything you want to know in detail, tell me in a comment. I will try to count it in the next episode as much as possible!

1. To use mobile phones in Korea, you need to purchase USIM.

The prepaid USIM is purchased at Incheon Airport or Seoul Station, and at convenience stores in the International Airport.
There is also a service to send USIM to the accommodation when delivery charges are paid.

2. Things to Be Careful about When Riding TAXI in Korea

The most common form of transportation to and from short distances in Korea is TAXI. Korean taxis are divided into regular taxis and deluxe taxis. They are color coded; taxis with black colors are expensive deluxe taxis and need to be cautious when riding them. Orange or yellow or blue taxis are all regular taxis, and the basic price starts at KRW 3000. It is suitable for riding in and traveling in a taxi when traveling 3 to 5 kilometers.
(In addition, blue color taxis are electric powered vehicles.)

3. Free Wi-Fi in Korea

There is so much free Wi-Fi in South Korea. However, there are a few precautions on using free Wi-Fi.

(1) Avoid Wi-Fi in the name of wireless router.
This Wi-Fi uses router defaults, so it is not guaranteed information leakage. If information leakage is irrelevant(ex. Internet Searching), it is not okay to use it.

(2) Use Wi-Fi at Cafe
To avoid reckless use around, the cafe uses a Wi-Fi password on its purchase receipt. If you purchased the beverage from the cafe, please look at the bottom of the receipt. Sometimes, the walls of the cafe have Wi-Fi passwords.

(3) Free Wi-Fi is not available at Korean service providers.
Free Wi-Fi from Korean carriers, such as SK, KT and LG, is only connected, but not practically available. They move to the payment screen for Wi-Fi usage.

4. About the tip at the restaurant

In Korea, there is no tip separately. Restaurants only include VAT on their food prices.
And all Side Dish is free!

5. South Korea has a right-hand traffic.

Therefore, both the vehicle and the person must move to the right.

6. About T-Money of the Korean Public Transit

T-Money is one of the payment methods created for public transportation in Korea. Buses, subways, and taxis are available and transfer discounts are available for each transportation system. (Same bus number does not apply : Transfer from Bus No.306 to No.306 is not discounted.) Purchasing is easy at nearby convenience stores. (ex. Seven Eleven, GS25, CU ..)
After purchasing the card, one can use the card as much as fill in the KRW. The T-Money purchased can be charged by charging machines at convenience stores, bus terminals, and the subway.
