I am writing my first series of korean drama review. This is not a sort spoiling good movies or series, but to inspire everyone to watch every good movies, both international and local. So, I present you Yong Pal. Enjoy reading!

Yong Pal is about a talented doctor who desperately in need of money to help his ill sister. Joo woon who played the role of Kim Tae Hyun. Yong Pal is actually a code name for a person who secretly goes for illegal house calls. A personal doctor to criminals, gangsters or any rich personality involved in any illegal activities.

I found Yong Pal a very challenging drama series. A drama full of twist, and it’s not your typical love story drama. You can also learn some medical terms and procedures from the series.

The drama started with Tae Hyun helps lots of wounded gangster in a hidden area.
He was right away caught by Chief Lee (Lee Ho-Joon ) when he returned to Hanshin Hospital. Chief Lee influenced Tae Hyun to use his skills on the 12th floor of the hospital. The 12th floor takes care of rich people who need privacy and Tae Hyun is called in to help cover up their illegal activities.

There he met Han Yeo Jin (Kim Tae Hee), who changed Tae Hyun’s life. Han Yeo Jin, a chaebol heiress, who has been in a coma for three years. She was forcibly kept in a coma so that her brother, Han Do Joon (Jo Hyun Jae), can run their company. Tae Hyun helps Yeo Jin to wake from her sleep.

And since Tae Hyun desperately needs money for her sister’s expensive kidney dialysis, Yeo Jin also decided to help him but in return; he must help her escape from 12th floor.

Tae Hyun completely made Yeo Jin conscious but both simply pretend that she’s still in coma when surrounded with other people. While secretly making plans for the escape, the two bond during their late night talks.

Their plans ended after Yeo Jin’s brother, Do Joon, decided to kill her through fake suicide. During the escape, Yeo Jin barely makes it out alive, and Tae Hyun ended with gunshot. Tae Hyun’s trusted nurses and doctors, especially Cynthia (Stephanie Lee), who also has special skills, helped him fake Yeo Jin’s death to protect her. After some recovery time, the two finally escaped and went to a church to hide.

The two got the time to bond and build a romance. They also got a chance to just enjoy their simple life, even if it was just for a mean time.

Due to another close friend’s health condition, Tae Hyun was forced to return to 12th floor of Hanshin Hospital. He returns to the hospital even he knows that he is in trouble but with Cynthia‘s help, he’s able to send his sister So Hyun (Park Hye Soo) in America.

Yeo Jin also decided to join Tae Hyun at the hospital. She came back, readily and very willing to protect him. Together with her decision is to let all of them know that she’s alive, to surprise everyone especially Do joon. She also desperately wants to reclaim her name and position as the only one owner of Hanshin Group.

They planned to marry each other so that Tae Hyun can be Yeo Jin’s legal guardian instead of Do Joon. Tae Hyun went out to register the marriage. But with friend’s another request, He still agrees to make one illegal house call, ends up with another trouble and caught by the police.
Good thing, he was saved by one of the cop’s lives and then Doo Chul (Song Kyung Chul), a gangster he had previously saved who had attached to Tae Hyun, says he will deliver a bad guy directly to them if they allow Tae Hyun to register his marriage. Doo Chul turns into a very good friend to Tae Hyun.

Tae Hyun finally able to show up at Yeo Jin’s funeral just in time. Yeo Jin reveals herself and shows some criminal evidence in front of High Political Officials reason why Do Joon was arrested. Yeo Jin has reclaimed her name and position as chairwoman, the only one owner of Hanshin Group.

The newly married couple finally went to their new mansion and rest. But Yeo Jin has other plans. She decided to take revenge on everyone who was involved in keeping her in a coma.

She was really smart, wanting the deaths of several people with no hesitation. She also has big plans for Do Joon. She arranges an accident for him that lands him in a forced coma in the same room where she was kept prisoner.

When Tae Hyun learns what Yeo Jin been up to, he requested her to call off her revenge plans but she was not listening to him, she still wanted to get rid of Do Joon that causes a bit of a rocky between the couple. But Tae Hyun didn’t stop, he’s still trying to talk and convince Yeo Jin.

Things get complicated when her former fiancé’s father shows up wanting Do Joon dead for being part in his son’s death. Tae Hyun tries to save Do Joon by letting him out of the hospital, but Yeo Jin right away uses the opportunity to hand him over. Despite everything that had happened, Do Joon’s wife Chae Young (Chae Jung Ahn) was still waiting for him, still ready to let Do Joon escape from Yeo Jin’s hands. Do Joon could have escaped, but with his greed and pride, after he rejected their help, he ended being killed. Then Tae Hyun decides it is time to leave, and Yeo Jin rejects his offer to go with him.

Six months later, Tae Hyun built a small clinic in a small village and is now living a quiet life with his sister. He still waits for Yeo Jin to realize everything and wanting her to be with him. But Yeo Jin is no longer doing well. Chae Young is out for revenge for the death of Do Joon, her x-husband. She also plans to take over the company by slowly poisoning Yeo Jin. It right away resulted a stage 2 liver cancer to Yeo Jin. She is unaware of it because Hanshin hospital is covering up the real results of the tests and it was all mandated by her own assigned Chief of Staff. Yeo Jin was unaware of her condition but decided to leave the company and go back to Tae Hyun, but her condition quickly deteriorates, and was unable to leave. With the aid of some of the staff, Tae Hyun is eventually able to help her out of the house and just in time, he reveal to her what everyone had done and contracted his trusted police and detectives to arrest the people involved in Yeo Jin’s case.

Yeo Jin then right away rushed to the Hanshin hospital for treatment but no one wants to operate. Even Chief Lee, who has redeemed himself for his wrong decisions, wants to help, but his efforts are still not enough. Tae Hyun also desperately tries to save her, but ultimately he has to say his goodbyes to her.

But at the last minute of the series, Cynthia brought another “Yong Pal” from America to save the day. Yeo Jin’s surgery is successful. Tae Hyun wakes her up and asks, “Do you know who I am?” Then she answers, “Yong Pal.” End of the series.
