The Kosovo government is determined to maintain the 100 percent tax on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite the US and European Union's request to abolish tariffs.
The United States has asked Kosovo authorities to lift tariffs on imports originating in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and work with Serbia to avoid provocations and mitigate tensions.
On 21 November, the Kosovo government decided to increase the 100% customs duty on goods imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This decision has fueled harsh reactions of Serbs in Kosovo and the authorities in Belgrade and Sarajevo.
Serbia, which exports goods to over 400 million euros annually, demanded the abolition of the tax as a condition for continuing dialogue between the two countries.
