한국의 숨은 실력자들

소크라테스는 네 자신을 알라고 했는데, 이미 이 경지를 넘어 남을 한눈에 판단할수 있는 실력자들이 한국엔 많다.

10개월 된 아들과 횡단보도에 서있다.아들은 키즈까페에서 엄마의 관심을 오롯이 받으며 신나게 놀았다. 이젠 좀 피곤한지 손가락을 빨며 유모차에 기대어 앉아있다. 옆에 같이 신호를 기다리던 처음보는 할머니가 말을 건낸다. "손가락빨면 애정결핍이라던데. 의사가 그렇게 얘기하던데. 애기 사랑 많이 해줘야겠네."

그렇게 아들을 보고 엄마를 판단했다.
손가락을 빠는 것을 보고 애정결핍으로. 엄마는 부족한 사람이 되었다.

유유히 옆에서 바뀐 신호에 발걸음을 옮기며 말을 거는 할머니. 대단한 실력자다.

헛헛한 미소를 지으며 '그러게요'라고 대꾸한후 난 잠시 멈췄다. 처음 만났지만 더 알고 싶지 않은 사람으로 분류했다. 나 또한 실력자가 되어가고 있다.

조금 더 얘기했으면 다른 생각이. 그 사람에 대한 다른 느낌 생겼을까.

먼저 나를 알아야하는데 남이 더 잘 보이니, 타산지석으로라도 나를 더 알게 되길 바라게 된다.

Socrates has told you to know yourself, but there are a lot of people in Korea who can judge at a glance.

I am standing at the crosswalk with my 10 - month - old son. Now I am tired and he is leaning on a stroller, sucking his finger. A old woman who waits for a signal to turn green says "If a baby suck his fingers, doctors say he lacks of affection,right? You must love him."

She saw my son and judged the mother.
Seeing the baby sucking fingers, I became a bad mother.

I responded with a smile and said, "I will." I stopped for a while. I categorized her as a person who i don't want to know more. I am also becoming a talented person who can judge another at a glance.

If I talked a little more, would I feel different? I'm not sure.

I need to know myself first, but I see others better, and I want to know me even more than I can.
