How Red chili peppers came to Korea

Adding red chili peppers to the roster🌶

It is incredible to see how the traditional side dish of Kimchi has survived and evolved over time, from the Koryeo period (918–1392) to the Joseon dynasty (1392–1897 AD), and finally to the present day Korea. Kimchi was a rather straightforward side dish during the Koyreo era. All it was was thinly sliced cabbages and radishes preserved in salt and soy sauce. How simple, right? If we were to travel back to the Joseon era in 1592, when Korea underwent significant culinary transformations, Japan had engaged in a lot of trading at the time. Some of the foods they were interested in trading were starchy foods like corn and potatoes, but somehow red chili peppers weren't that popular amongst the Japanese.
