『프랑스 군인 쥐베르가 기록한 병인양요』라는 책을 읽다가 반가운 대목이 눈에 띄었다. 1866년 병인양요 때 강화도 땅을 밟은 프랑스 해군 장교 앙리 쥐베르(Henri Zuber, 1844~1909)가 강화도 관아(官衙)에 있는 정원을 보고 “영국식으로 가꾸어진 정원”이라는 기록을 남긴 것이다.
