쇳불도 단김에 빼라고 했다. 아쉽게 남겨둔 길을 걷고자 한라산 생태숲을 찾았다. 그런데 역시 오늘도 절반의 성공이다. 그런데 또 나머지 절반은 의외의 수확이다. 그러고보면 사는게 모두 실패이거나 모두 성공은 아닌 모양이다.
숫모르편백숲길로 들어선다. 토토로가 살것만 같은 듬직한 삼나무가 입구를 지키고 서있다. 숫모루길은 '숯을 구웠던 등성이'란 뜻의 옛지명이다. 물론 옛 흔적은 찾아볼수 없지만 그냥 숲이 주는 생명감은 느낄수 있다.
숲길을 걷다 계단을 좀 오른다 싶었는데 한숨을 돌리고 보니 개오리오름 정상이란 간판이 나타났다. 개오리 오름도 3개가 쪼르름히 있는 복합형 오름인데, 의도하지 않았으나 그중 하나인 셋개오리 오름에 서있다. 에구, 그럼 남은 2개의 개오리 오름도 가봐야 겠구만. 숙제를 했는데 또 숙제가 생긴 기분이다.
