NORTH KOREA CALLS FOR UNION WITH SOUTH KOREA

in kr •  7 years ago

North Korea has made a call to all Koreans living at home and abroad to work towards unification, stating that it is possible for the amalgamation to take place without interference from other countries. This rare announcement was made on Thursday.

The state-run media of North Korea issued the statement, saying that both countries should make a “breakthrough” for unification. “Let us make a breakthrough for independent unification,” it said. The announcement came after a meeting of political and government parties.

This call from Pyongyang is a move towards a less hostile rapport following months of growing tension on the Korean Peninsula. The request was made with the intention of promoting contact, travel as well as cooperation between North and South Korea. It also added that military training with outside forces has proven to be of no use to the improvement of dealings between North and South Korea.

A violent response followed the announcement, stating that Pyongyang will smash any challenge that arises against the reunification process of the Korean Peninsula. The report also added that Koreans would engage in a dynamic initiative to neutralize the sensitive military tension and to create a nonviolent climate on the Peninsula.

The North Korean regime has recently been repeatedly testing surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles, threatening to destroy its neighbors. By extending an olive branch, North Korea has agreed to send athletes to the forthcoming Winter Olympics taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The official news agency of North Korea also stated that military tension on the Korean Peninsula was the fundamental obstacle hindering the progress of inter-relations between North and South Korea. The message also called for the scaling down of the military tension in the Peninsula. The Koren Peninsula was divided into North and South Korea back in 1945.

Heightened tensions between the two countries have been dampened recently following a New Year Day’s speech issued by Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader that he would be involved in open talks with South Korea.
Leaders from North and South Korea have started engaging in discussions for the first time in many years.

Although there are no precise details about why the meeting was held, according to the statement, the meeting was meant to support Kim Jong Un and his comment about unification. The statement also indicated that this year is significant for both countries as it is the 70th anniversary of the formation of North Korea while South Korea will play hosts to the Winter Olympics in February.

North Korea is preparing to stage a significant event to mark the anniversary of its military come February 8, a day before the commencement of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. North Korean officials have not been forthcoming about the details of the events scheduled to take place on the D-Day.

South Korea is hoping that the Winter Olympics will serve as a symbol of stability and peace.

The North Korean regime must be getting really desperate! I guess those sanctions are taking their toll on the regime's finances and cash flows.

Korean here. Thanks for a good article, but we are highly doubting North Korea's sincerity - as they are facing strict sanctions, their moves only seem to be temporary. They do not show any will to move onto proliferation, and recent talks on cultural exchange has just been called off due to "South's negative public opinion towards cultural exchange events".

Man that's great! I hope Korea does reunify (although not under the Kims).

"independent unification"
don't those two words mean the opposite of each other?
Never mind...

it worked GREAT for east/west germany....why NOT?

yes, but let's see if it is possible with Korea :p

que fino

Are they not allowed to smile? They all look petrified. It's almost like they're on a mission, collecting intel...or just calculating their escape.

I hope these countries are united it would give them an edge in the intentional market due to combine in resorces.

wow is that really can happen i really have doubt on it 😉😉😉😉
it's not possible na na

Good news...thanks sir

It has been the goal of north korea to form some sort of confederation with the south since the rule of Kin Il-sung but without foreign interference (mostly from the US) and under conditions that pleases the north. It has to be appreciated that the confrontational policy of Kim Jung-un cooled down before the winter olympics but this serves as a mere tool of distraction of the ongoing nuclear program which is the "life support" for the north korean regime.

thanks for this information, it's very useful.

The South has a GDP more than 40 times that of the North. This alone makes unification impossible unless the North Koreans abort their government and it’s backward economic system.

if the north truly wants to unify back with the south that will be great for world peace. i hope it works out for the koreans

Don't do it South Korea!! :(

The war is expensive but nursing the peace is more expensive

This is an interesting post you have here @jwolf. I do hope that this will lead to having peace from these two divided countries.

jwolf , you came out of nowhere and you are killing it in Steem with stunning content. This truly shows that when one is dedicated success does not take long to follow.

jwolf is a straight shooter and I am glad to see that he continues to give solid advice.

I welcome any hopes of peace... but the north is not a good actor.

I don't think it will be possible at all. Because world superpowers never want unification, rather they love the policy "divide and conquer". They will make sure that this unification never take place.

really... REALLY

North Korea always wanted to unify with the south.

Under their leadership and on their term only that is.

Hey dude, great post. Have you got any tips or advice on how you built your steem profile?? Would love to hear from you
