Here is the press release I drafted for the event:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kratom Supporters Rally in Austin

An Austin based-coalition is forming in support of kratom, a therapeutic plant in the coffee family. The Drug Enforcement Administration recently issued a statement that they would be categorizing the plant as Schedule One (the same class as drugs such as heroin and LSD) as early as September 30th 2016.

While the FDA reports no medicinal use, advocates in Texas use the plant for pain management, getting off opiates (both prescription and heroin), stress relief, and sleep therapy. Additionally, the plant has been used for PTSD and trauma recovery.

Kratom users and health freedom activists will hold a rally and march tomorrow that will begin at auditorium shores at 11AM and end on the south lawn of the State Capitol.

There will be a press conference immediately following the rally (approximately 1pm) on the Capital lawn. Media is encouraged to attend the rally to hear from our speakers and medicinal users. A national rally will be taking place in Washington DC at the same time along with multiple cities nation wide.

The Center for Regulatory Effectiveness says they have received hundreds of unique (not form) letters from angry citizens and are calling on the DEA to push back the Scheduling date until July 2017 and to fully explore the issues before making such a decision.

An educational symposium will be held at Brave New Books this Saturday at 2pm where Austinites can hear from panels of medicinal users and experts

We hope to facilitate a city-wide conversation about government overreach, the war on drugs, and the medicinal uses of kratom.

There is a petition to reverse the decision here

If the decision is not reversed the Austin coalition will be pushing for a state nullification bill, similar to the state legalization of marijuana laws passing across the country.

Coalition members include Brave New Books, Garden of Ancients, Center for Natural Living, Texans for Accountable Government, Incensual Aroma, Kratom for Cheap, and thehomestead.guru.

KRATOM IS BECOMING SCHEDULE 1

What is Kratom?

Mitragyna Speciosa is a tropical deciduous and evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. It is closely relate to the coffee tree. Kratom behaves as an opioid receptor agonist, although the effects are extremely different from traditional opioids. The effects can be described as a mood lift and energy boost, similar to a cup of coffee.

What is it used for?

Thousands of people throughout the world use Kratom to quit using opioids like Heroin, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, etc. It has also been used to treat chronic pain, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, PTSD, alcoholism, and a variety of other medical conditions and associated symptoms.

Why shouldn’t it be Schedule 1?

There have been no recorded deaths from Kratom use alone. All associated deaths (around 15) have involved other illicit and prescription drugs, and Kratom was never found as the cause of death. Many people depend on this plant as an alternative to dangerous prescriptions drugs that have a multitude of side effects.

Its so sad that the government can criminalize plants... I use kratom instead of pharmaceuticals for chronic pain, and to help with my social anxiety from time to time.

Big pharma is losing their dope sales, and the CIA is losing their heroin sales.

Make another plant illegal.

I hope your work catches the ear of someone who has not been purchased in government. This whole thing smells of pharmaceutical company shenanigans.

Bingo!
"Many people depend on this plant as an alternative to dangerous prescriptions drugs that have a multitude of side effects."

Keep up the great work Cat! :-)

I ordered some a few days ago from you guys <3

Amazing! Did you get it yet?

"Sounds like the DEA wants a two-year Schedule 1 classification for two reasons:

  1. They know that a prolonged Schedule 1 designation will wear down the opponents of the ban.
  2. It gives Big PharMa the opportunity to corner the market and charge outrageous prices to patients,

Time for the DEA to be DOA - the war on drugs and on people suffering from chronic pain will go down as one of the darker chapters in history. Meanwhile, not a single Wall Street Bankster who crashed the economy and ruined MILLIONS of peoples lives have done the perp walk. For more information:<a href=""http://kratomcrazy.com/"">Kratom"
