What is Kratom

“Kratom” commonly refers to an herbal substance that can produce opioid- and stimulant-like effects. Kratom and kratom-based products are currently legal and accessible in many areas, though U.S. and international agencies continue to review emerging evidence to inform kratom policy. [1] As with other substances with opioid-like effects, kratom use can lead to drug tolerance, cravings, and dependence. Eventually, this can lead to physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms when people stop using it.

Kratom origins

“Kratom” refers to both Mitragyna speciosa, a tree native to Southeast Asia, and to products derived from its leaves that are marketed as herbal supplements. Kratom leaves contain many chemical compounds (known as bioactive alkaloids) that can affect the body. The most well-studied compounds related to kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Types of Kratom

One of the most popular ways to take Kratom is in the form of powder. The powder can be taken by itself, or it can be mixed with juice or another liquid. Some people prefer to take Kratom capsules, which are easy to take and don’t have a bitter taste.

Kratom comes in different strains, each with its own set of effects. The most common strains are:

Red Vein: Red vein Kratom is the most popular type. It’s known for its relaxing and sedative effects.

Green Vein: Green vein Kratom is less common than red or white Kratom. It’s known for its energizing and mood-boosting effects.

White Vein: White vein Kratom is the least common type. It’s known for its stimulating and euphoric effects.

SPECIAL MENTION: Super Elephant Kratom: Super elephant kratom gets its name from the giant leaves on the Kratom plant. The leaves actually look like elephant ears. Kratom users have been using this strain traditionally to help ease social anxiety and depression.

Kratom strains can also be combined to create custom blends with specific desired effects. For example, a mix of red and green Kratom is often used to help people focus and increase energy levels.

Kratom is generally safe to use, but there are some potential side effects. These include nausea, vomiting, constipation, and increased urination. Some people may also experience hallucinations or delusions. Kratom should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women, or by children under the age of 18. It’s also important to note that Kratom can be addictive, so it’s important to use it in moderation.
