How do you decide where to stop for the night...?
Well.... Glad You asked. Or didn't. But I will tell you anyways....
I just ask these 2 KrazzyLazzyKittyz where they wanna stop....lol
No....Not Really......
Many things factor in. Safety, accessability, fuel prices, showers, parking setup, etc.
So right now We are on our way to del. In S. Dallas TX. (Desoto)
South Dallas TX. Is one of the top 5 most dangerous places that We still travel to. There are many more dangerous places. Far too many to list. The key words here are.... Top 5 We still travel to.
We no longer travel to the places like...:
Detroit (where i was mugged 15 yrs. ago) Chicago (where you need body armor) New York City, where there are cheap ass freight rates coming back out, plus $100's of dollars in highway and bridge tolls. Highways I already pay taxes on to use... (all of New England really, the whole area is a do not fly zone for us) California (anti truck / over regulated) etc etc....
There are many more places we will not go. The list grows every year. This Trucker only goes where it is safe and profitable. I do not need to haul heavy, haz-mat loads, in the mountains. They pay no more than the light loads on the flat lands, and the MPG's when heavy in the mountains are horrible. Not to mention time lost crawling up those mountains.
Side TraXX'd.... Derailed My Train of Thought....
Anyways, back to Truckstops. Here are some screenshot examples of reviews on the bad stops. Taken from my Trucker Path app on phone.
I will start from the Loves that is only a few miles away from (Desoto, TX) where we drop this load at 5 am. Monday morning. It would have been the best place to stop, but......
Not one good review on the page.
The Pilot a few miles further away is just as bad....
I worked my way thru the reviews on 5 diff TS's all the way to @jantons back yard. The Quicktrip 63 miles from our delivery.
Did You see the difference...?
Been there done that......
I have been to nearly every TS in my nearly 30 yrs. And 3+ million miles of driving these USA highways. Except Communist California. I only went there 3 times early in my career. That was more than enough.
California has been anti truck & horrible on co$t$ longer than I have been....... KrazzyTrukkin' Keep On.....
Ps. @galenkp I found a few more Fu©k!ng words.... Heheheh
You are very brave! Good thing you have those kitties to protect you! I much prefer my human's waterbed and a good wood fire with some kitty treats. Be safe out there and have a purrr-fect day!

Things have changed a lot since I was OTR. Don't get me wrong: all the things you said about NYC, New England, California, etc. were true then, too. The Banning scale has always been a friggin nightmare. But even Landstar is not what it was when I was a steering wheel holder. I had a looseleaf log and no PrePass or EZpass to record my location. I could do it like I wanted. Those days are gone.

My days are numbered that is for sure. I will not do it when the Autobot trucks hit the highway.
I will want to sell my truck as quickly as I can before it becomes a worthless boat anchor.
Go watch the movie Logan (Last Wolverine Movie) at the 20-25 min mark. Auto drive semi trucks wreck them.
It is a look into the future. They are pushing the auto trucks hard. No Hours of service. No driver issues to deal with..... A.i. is a weapon against us all when it is controlled by greedy corporate control freaks like Google / Microsloth

It's so sad that it's getting so unsafe out there, what I hate is those who do harm seem to get away with so much shit, some never seem to get caught and continue to hurt people. Stay safe krazzytrukker and thnks for sharing all these details.
