Malaysia, where about 20% of the population are Buddhists, celebrated the Vesak festival in a grand manner this year as well.
Vesak Poho has been declared a public holiday for the whole of Malaysia, and Buddhist temples in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca were filled with devotees.

In Malaysia, there are about 4 main temples where Sri Lankan Buddhist monks reside and in addition to this there are also temples where Chinese Thai Burmese monks reside.
Although the majority of the population is Muslim, the Malaysian government has allowed all people in the country to practice their religion freely.
Vesak Pohoda is a spectacular procession held by Buddhists who march through the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia throughout the night.
For this, the Chinese Buddhist temples in the city of Kuala Lumpur and the temples where the Sri Lankan monks resided received the support.
A great dansala was held on Vesak Poho at Sentul Sri Lankarama in Kuala Lumpur and a blood donation ritual was also held. This was supported by a Sri Lankan cargo company.
These benedictions were organized by Sentul Vihara Viharaya Butawatte Saranankara Thero and Viharavasi Paravahera Indrasumana Thero.
In addition to this, many Vesak Poho Day rituals were held at the Kuala Lumpur Buddhist Temple in Malaysia under the organization of Kirinde Dhammarathana Thera, the head of the Getwil Buddhist Temple. Many devotions were held at the Sri Lanka Rama in Malacca.
It is a special fact that the majority of Buddhists who visit the temples where Buddhist monks reside in Malaysia are Tamils.
On the day of Vesak Poho and the following day, they participated in these rituals with great devotion and due to this, there was heavy traffic around the temples.
