A super sports car soul and the functionality typical for an SUV: this is Lamborghini Urus, the world’s first Super Sport Utility Vehicle. Identifiable as an authentic Lamborghini with its unmistakable DNA, Urus is at the same time a groundbreaking car: the extreme proportions, the pure Lamborghini design and the outstanding performance make it absolutely unique. Urus’ distinctive silhouette with a dynamic flying coupé line shows its super sports origins, while its outstanding proportions convey strength, solidity and safety. Urus’ success factors are definitely the design, the driving dynamics and the performance. All these features allowed Lamborghini to launch a Super Sport Utility Vehicle remaining loyal to its DNA.

Wild styling and ferocious performance will combine to help the Urus make its own indelible mark on the SUV world. With a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 packing 641 hp under its stubby hood, Lamborghini estimates a zero-to-62-mph time of 3.6 seconds and top speed of 190 mph. An all-wheel-drive system features a locking center diff, while an air suspension keeps the ride civilized. Enormous carbon-ceramic brakes should provide great stopping power. Look for the Urus in late 2018 priced around $200K.

Predictably, the interior takes a form-above-function approach, with numerous exotic leather, wood, carbon-fiber, and metal trim options available. Screens are everywhere, including a large digital gauge cluster, a fairly conventional-looking central infotainment display, and a lower control touchscreen that is reminiscent of the unit in Range Rover’s new Velar. Sitting inside the Urus, we found rear-seat room to be adequate, although headroom is a bit pinched by the sloped roofline. Both four- and five-seat configurations are available, while the roofline and the sharply raked liftgate mean that the cargo area is deep but not tall.
