Lament of Jesus for unrepentant towns: It will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. Matthew 11:22

The gospel of Saint Matthew relates that Jesus, after announcing the beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount and summarizing the ethical and moral demands of the Kingdom of God, began to perform signs among the common and simple people who lived in the region of Galilee. Jesus among his most notable miracles, healed the servant of a Roman centurion (Matthew 8:5-13), he also cast out impure spirits from possessed people (Matthew 8:28-34), and resurrected a girl (Matthew 9:18-25).
But then the gospel relates that Jesus reflected, and made a lament over the unrepentant towns, many people had rejected his spiritual message. Jesus taught with this truth that the hardness of hearts prevents people from entering the Kingdom of God; that is why metaphorically he condemned Bethsaida and Chorazin and compared them to pagan cities, and he did the same with Capernaum which he compared to Sodom. As Jesus taught, people can only enter his Kingdom through the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity).
With these words, Jesus announced the misfortune of the cities in Galilee that did not accept him as messiah:
"Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. ´Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you´" Matthew 11:20-24.
