Notice the fog in this photo. This was taken on our way back down Mt. Ulap Eco Trail located at Itogon, Benguet. The fog [ulap or ulep means fog in our local language] stayed there the whole time we were traversing this trail. It never crossed over even when we were past it.

This is a rolling hills and mountains of grassland and pine trees that is common here in #Benguet. Sometimes the path lines just at the edge of the mountain that one slip will find you down at the foot of the mountain.

This was my first hike on this trail. Me, my brothers and cousins went to "conquer" this mountain back in 2015.

The trail starts with trees like pines clumped together which makes the trail cool and refreshing. It is a great way to start which invigorates and gives that motivation as you smell the sweet scent these trees give off.

The red ribbon on the picture on the left was left behind by the North Face event held earlier. Baguio and the surrounding mountains and trails of Benguet is a great setting for these challenges.

Kaingin [slash and burn] system or shifting cultivation is still a practice here in our mountains. It poses a threat to the forests and mountains but such is the way of life especially to the farmers as evidence in the photo above. These mountains are owned by farmers and cattle herders. Aside from gardens, there are cows grazing in search for those plentiful grasses that they can feast on.

Wooden gates have been placed to keep off cows entering certain areas. These gates and fences protects the gardens from cows. Even cows should be given limits.

It is advisable to hike earlier in the day so that by the time you get to the top, it will not be that hot. By the time we reached the parts where there are not enough trees and shade, it was already hot.

You will forget how hot it is when you are met with this exhilarating view. The mountains go miles and miles and the cloud display during that time cooperated as well. Giving the landscape a spectacle to behold.

Take time to relax and enjoy the vistas. It is a great day to be alive!

GUNGAL ROCK.jpg

This is not for the vertiginous people. Gungal Rock is part of big rocks sticking out on a cliff of the mountain. This is where we ended our hike. The trail continues and exits to Sta. Fe but our time is limited. We hiked about 4 hours to reach this spot and it will take us another 4 hours or less to go back.

I was amazed at the tenaciousness of the kids that we brought along with us and how much they are enjoying the trail even running at some point that we have to restrain them else they might fall off or roll down the mountains.

I think this fog is what a lenticular cloud looks like up close. I took a photo as we passed by this wall of fog or cloud. There are dead trees along the way and some of them have evidence that they were struck by lightning.

Going to Ampucao, take a jeepney from Baguio City to Ampucao. It is about 40 minutes ride. You can also hire jeepney or taxi that can bring you to Ampucao and then fetch you.

There is a PHP50.00 fee per person registration fee at the barangay hall. They also require a guide now with a fee of course. During our hike, we didn't have to go to through all that. They no regulate how many people are allowed to hike and they are limiting it to 500 person per day. It is advisable to go there during the weekdays because more people hike there during the weekends.

Living on the edge! This is how thin the trail can get and it is just at the edge. When you go to this trail, walk with caution and don't look down. It is not for the faint of heart.

Step Out in Style!.jpg

It was a tiring hike but fulfilling just the same. Given the chance, I will go back there again and maybe bring the family again. The more the merrier.

Wow, excellent photography sir.I also love to travel and I always love the beauty of nature. Thanks for sharing sir.

Thank you! Traveling is a great experience because you get to experience new and different things.

Can't help to ask... is Ampucao different from Ampacao? Hehe. Although I know they're different, there were pictures that you shared which seems to be the same as Mt Ampacao in Mountain Province. Hehe Also, I like the pictures tho!

I have never been so I don't know lol! It probably is different. Quick Google and it says they are different. Ampacao is in Sagada. The terrain and landscape is almost the same in some parts of the Mountain Province and Benguet.

Haha! Same, I just went to Ampacao. Yup, that's why I thought they're just one. Haha, Thanks for double checking it.

Damn, that all looks amazing! Those rock towers are also common in Korea. Hiw do the berries taste?

It is possible to go biking here, you know. Want to give it a go? :D

The berries taste sour and the texture is soft. It is hollow inside so it kind of melts in your mouth.

You brought me feeling of Nostalgia. I used to be assigned in Tagaytay, I miss the calmness of the mountain and the gentle breeze from it. These pictures have a lot of similarity of what I used to see everyday while i was staying there. Thanks for sharing @leeart

Come up to Baguio if you have the chance. Feast your eyes to the beautiful mountains around.

I've been to Baguio twice. But been to the city (Session road,SM the park) I'm sure there's still a lot that I should still explore. When I get a chance, I'll let you know :)

Madali lang puntahan mga tourist spot kasi maliit lang ang Baguio hehe

Ang ganda kso nakakatakot ung trail lalo na sa may bato. nkakalula cguro dyan.

Beautiful place. I would like to visit this place once.

It's okay to visit more than once :) It might interest you to visit other places here as well.

Yup, yun nga yun @junebride hehe

Little things na di natin aakalain na magkakaganun. Kaya dapat talaga maging responsible traveler tayong lahat para di na maulit hehe

Yes, I believe so. Magkasunod lang sila ng Mt. Pulag.

Okay na. Open na ulit for hikers. Yun sa Mt. Pulag akala ko matagal pa bago nila i-open pero hindi naman.

Looks like a beautiful area, thanks. I don't think I could sit so close to the edge of Gungal Rock!

Ehem! I just knew that you are also into this hiking thing and I am amazed because I also love to do this. Ang sarap ng feeling na kahit pagod ay enjoy mo ang view.

beautiful nature photography,, excellent work

Wow. That's very beautiful place. I have never experienced being on a trail but as what I have heard it so much fun and so relaxing even if it is super tiring. :)

What a trek!!! Beautiful scenery, fresh air, walking through the clouds what more could you ask for. I definitely wouldn't be able to go up to that rock - I do have vertigo. It would be a loooooong way down.

Sad to see a Kaingin portion in the mountain, though the mountain views are so amazing. Glad to know that locals have regulations about hiking in the mountains.

Awesome place and photography! I was in Benguet in 2000 but stayed the house not for long and went back in Pangasinan.

Feel free to come visit anytime :)

Take me there!!!!
