Small Scale Project: A Rooftop Garden Landscape Design Works

in landscape-design •  7 years ago  (edited)

A client who wanted to rebuild her rooftop garden engaged me to prepare a set of landscape proposal for the rooftop garden. I attended a site visit to her house rooftop to understand the existing site condition, and discussed with the client regarding design requirements and project budget.

Due to this bungalow is not a new unit and the owner didn’t have the layout plan, so I done an on-site measurement with my landscape contractor. Then I prepared the layout plan after the site visit.

The existing floor tiles were removed and some other planters were taken off.

The proposed landscape area is quite small and cosy. The owner intended to retain the existing feature wall and changed the rest of landscape area to rocky water feature and bonsai plant pots.

I checked the existing planter’s sizes. So that I can propose the right plants to suit the planter sizes.

My design objective is to create sustainable skyrise greenery in terms of plants selection, water runoff system, and fulfil my client requirement to propose rocky water feature with some pots display.

Sketch and define design zoning on papers, and then start my drafting works by AutoCAD. Create a layout plan with scale based on site measurement.

Draft a landscape elevation for rocky garden by AutoCAD and a blow up plan as well.

Measure the proposed hardscape and softscape by AutoCAD and list out the quantities for all the proposed material and plants.

Working on BQ (Bill of Quantities) in excel file with list-up the proposed hardscape and softscape. Filling the specification for each type of proposed plants. To make sure not over client’s budget.

So much work on the roof top. Usually the one thing the residents will ask is that whether hacking all these tiles up and do the refurbishment will cause any leakage or not 😂😂

Wanting to see the final completion!
