Surprise View is a stunning view point above the village of Hathersage in Derbyshire, UK. There are some wonderful and interesting rock formations at the top.

We parked in the car park and walked up the hill to the natural rock known as Mother Cap. It was quite impressive.

There are quite a few millstones around which have been left over from the quarry nearby.

We followed one of the footpaths to the top of the hill and just soaked up the stunning views. Thankfully, the weather was quite pleasant. Not really a place to be in bad weather. After a breather we made our way back down the hill to the car. Great afternoon.

These are pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing them with us, @ellenripley.

My pleasure.

A peculiar layered rock at the top. I wonder what type of rock that is.

I think it's gritstone.

I think you're right. I just peeked the Wikipedia article on gritstone and it had a picture that looked just like the one you took on that hill.

They're very unusual. Will upload more at some point.

Did you make it to the Cakes of Bread? I recognise that exact millstone. The Peaks are awesome. Great posts!

I only went to the Mother Cap. I've never heard of Cakes of Bread 😊

Ahh. It's very similar :)

A lot of beautiful countryside still left in England....

Yes I'm very lucky. I don't have to travel far before I'm out in the countryside.
