Rainy days in the rockies.

Although everything is currently covered in snow, sometimes I find myself looking back through photos and dreaming about when the weather was a different. Right now it's just white 24/7. :)

Shooting in the rain is always a bit of a chore - thankfully I always bring my hightech ziploc bag with the hole cut in it to shoot from!

I love when the rockies have low cloud cover. It makes the pictures that much more moody. When you're up a little higher - sometimes you can watch the clouds float by.

The red umbrella is a great prop - fortunately my wife doesn't mind stepping out on slippery logs for a photo. I can't remember but I bet she's saying....

"Would you hurry up...I might fall in...and then i'll be wet...and then you'll be sorry."

Well I wouldn't go out there. Mostly because I'm the one who likes taking the pictures.....but also because I don't like getting wet.

What's your fave photo prop?

Wonderfull post.

Thank you!

Awesome shot!I take photos as well, here is one I took of two of my friends floating at the same time :) photo by casey

Nice shot!

beautiful photography @jfolkmann i love your shots.

Thank you much!

Looks amazing! You definitely capture the moodyness in the last picture with the stark contrast of the red. It neatly breaks up the monotony of grey in between the lake and the skies

First picture is really mesmerizing...It makes me feel cold, wild and alone...

I like it...

Congrats...

Thanks. It's a pretty awesome spot. Every time I visit there's something else to take a pic of.

Beautiful shot . If you are interested check out this contest

I will do! Thanks for the tip.

Beautiful work! I love the red umbrella... I was just saying to my hubby yesterday that one or both of us should get a bright red or orange jacket to wear on our adventures for a nice photo prop :) I am just learning to shoot landscapes but for my portraiture I would often use a crystal or a plastic bag to semi-obscure the lens and create interesting effects.
I love your feed and will be following along! Are you in Alberta? I am in BC- VanIsland to be exact. Cheers to you!!

Yup - based in Calgary. I bought a nice red northface a while ago.... i found with landscapes sometimes it's fun to have something. I haven't experimented with effects yet....

Also following!

Thank you! :)

Wow, what a peaceful looking spot. The clouds are low. What altitude were you, if you recall?

According to google it's 1,500 m - sometimes they come down pretty low when it's wet and soppy.

Right on, I lived in Arizona and at that height, it was mostly lenticular clouds since almost every day was sunny.

I love the Rockies... Just spent some time in Colorado and it was beautiful.

I'm lucky to live where I do.

Hard to take pictures with low light and get detail. I like you shot with the colorful prop.

Some days are tough. Thanks for looking!

beautiful pictures, the red umbrella really contrasts well with the white fog

Lovely location and excellent prop choice to make that photo pop!

This is the type of location I would LOVE to explore with the birdcam.

My favorite prop might be another drone for an inception-like picture.

That'd be an awesome idea.

Nice photos. Lovely place and it seems very tranquil despite the white cover. We love Canada and any image of it anywhere is great, but these have a lovely quality. I understand your wife's misgivings! I don't have a favourite prop but learned from my husband who is a good photographer, or was, until he got Parkinsons, and just by standing by him over the years I learnt so much, mainly by osmosis and by his teaching. I've always enjoyed photographs and that goes way back. Thanks for this.

Thanks for having a look. :)

Nice shots! but you can keep all that rain in the PNW!

Thank you. Yeah - rain isn't for everyone.

perfection can be seen

The rockies are perfection.

Nice captures and a welcome alternation to all the sunny posts :D

Thanks muchly!

The Picture show peace of mind & tranquility. feel calmness when look it

It's a great place for self reflection. So peaceful.

It must be the bunny.

The bunny is a must have. Perfect prop for every occasion!

Awesome photos!! :) If your in to cool photos you might like the Fox photo gallery our AI generated.

That's cool!

Great post! Such a moody feeling to these images

Thanks muchly!

These are my favorite types of photos. The winter fog is probably one of my favorite things about living near the mountains. Great shots!

Thanks. Agree...love the winter fog. Vancouver wins in that dept...but ours aren't bad.

Stunning! I have always loved landscape photography and hope to dive into it more in the future from behind the lense. Your wife’s patriotism to your work is appreciated! Her and the umbrella give so much depth to that second photo!

Thanks! She's pretty awesome....and very very patient.

That is a stunning location! The top photo is breathtakingly beautiful.

It's a great spot. Everyday is a little different.

Simplemente Hermoso!!!

Gracias!

Pretty! I LOVE the 2nd one!! 👍👍

Wonderful pictures! My favorite prop would be an umbrella as well but a colorful one. Have a nice day!

I've been looking for a rainbow one.

I have a rainbow one. I bought it for a prop! Want to come down to Florida to borrow it? Lol!

florida would be much much warmer

You would think. We have just had about a week of overnight freezing temperatures in North Florida and days in the 30s and 40s. I’m no wimp. I grew up in north Scotland, and moved to Ottawa and have also lived in London, ONTARIO, the Midwest and New England. What you all have going for you is good home heating! I nearly froze to death in my own home here. Lol! A heat pump just can’t handle freezing temperatures, and even with the emergency electric heat coming on, the heat just rose from the vents near the ceiling in our living room with a cathedral ceiling!! Great for air conditioning though. 😂

thanks much. yeah i love that first image - sometimes the rockies are so moody.

Your welcome
Moody is good in photos I believe

Great photos. Love the creativity of shooting in the rain. That's something that I've always avoided as I do a lot of aerial photography and typically looking for nice clear skies. Well done. I look forward to following your content.

Thanks muchly!

Well deserved choice for the #photfeed feature! My husband is the one who has to “go out on a limb” for me. Lol! I think that rainy days are great for photography. You have no hard shadows to deal with. You just have to make sure you have your ziplock bag for your camera. Lol!

That high tec ziplock bag is the best accessory!

I agree. No need for expensive rain hoods. 😊

Awesome shots! I suppose if you have 24/7 snow for months it must get boring, but we get mostly just rain here in Scotland so I would gladly trade you some of that for your snow! :D

I don't particularly have a favourite prop as I don't really use props in my photos but if I did It would probably be a transparent pvc tube with a flashlight in one end to do cool light painting stuff or a brightly coloured umbrella ..

Light painting is fun. I want to get one of these - http://www.thepixelstick.com/

beautiful photo, the color is very vivid ... what kind of exhibition did you use?
