The Twelve Apostles - Great Ocean Road

in landscapephotography •  7 years ago

The jewel of Australia's coastline. The limestone stacks of the 12 Apostles on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. Bus loads of tourists come through here every day to see these slowing disappearing towers. No matter how many times I come here, I'm blown away by the beauty of this place every time. Hidden from the road, you walk from the car park and visitors centre along a path with bushes on either side, too high to see over. Then the foliage clears and this sight takes your breath away.

This is looking the opposite direction to where this photo was taken: https://steemit.com/longexposurephotography/@kieranstone/great-ocean-gem

Thank you 🙂

@kieranstone what a wonderful picture! It looks like a paradise. Just theank you for sharing this bit of beauty

Thank you very much!

This is spectacular. I really want to learn more about my camera settings to get these light effects (I'm sure there is a good amount of photographer skill on top).

The settings are a guide and by no means a guarantee of getting a good shot ;) Every situation is different. There was a good sunrise on this morning so there was plenty of colour in the sky. I also had a 3 stop hard graduated filter over the sky

Awesome shot..great colors and exposure!

Thanks heaps!

Really like your work. I love how you editing the photo! The final result is amazing

Much appreciated! Thanks!

Have to spend a bit of time down there when we get home . Beautiful shot , but that’s a given mate with your work.

Awww thanks 😁. Plenty to visit when you get home

Kieran, you're killing it! Loving your shots.

Thanks, Yasmine! Have a great day!

I love this! I drove Great Ocean road one year ago! And I stopped here too. Of course.

I love the red skies!

Thanks so much, Susanne! Did you have a favourite spot along the Great Ocean Road?

How do you bring such colours? Is it HDR?
Do you use any filter glasses?

It's a single exposure. I used a NiSi 3 Stop Hard Grad over the sky to darken it compared to the foreground which helps bring out the colours and contrast

Amazing. Gorgeous day to photograph a gorgeous place! You say they are slowly disappearing.. How slowly? Like a few thousand years left or a few hundred?

There have been a couple of collapses in the past few decades. The more famous one being London Bridge (not pictured here) where the connecting arch to the main land collapsed leaving 2 people trapped on the remaining arch. They had to be helicoptered off. It was discovered that the 2 people were having an affair and were on a romantic getaway. Not the best way to get caught!

On the contrary. If you're going to throw a wrench into your married life, what better way than all over the news? Really just make a blockbuster out of the whole thing.

hahaha maybe they planned the whole thing

I never knew that about the people on there having an affair !

I hope it's not just something my parents told me to sound interesting. I've been telling everyone! 😅

Think that's a site that would take your breath away whichever angle you look at it. And that's an incredible photo.

goatsig

Thank you very much! I could spend the whole day here and still want to come back the next ;)

This place is very beautiful and I can see it because you just did a very nice shot. 😊

Thanks heaps!

Really cool shot! You had some awesome sky that evening. I wasn't very lucky with my photos from the viewpoints up there. But I got a nice pink sunset down at Gibsons :-)

It's different every time I go there. I'm not lucky every time! I've been up here looking down at Gibsons steps and have been glad I'm no where near that beach! Waves coming right up to the cliffs.

Wow I like the location and the pinky-red colour.

Thank you :)

Beautiful shot you definitely have an eye for photography. What editing program do you use?

Thank you! I use Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop :)

Grate shot! :)

Thanks!

Oh, wow, nice longtime exposure. Did you use a filter? or was the sun already so few that you didn't need one. I wish i can visit australia once in my life.

I used a NiSi 3 stop hard grad over the sky. This is facing the opposite direction to a sunrise as well

Wonderful picture

Thank you :)

Beautiful shot! I was also in down under and loved it, you will see pictures on my blog too ;) cheers annika

Thanks a bunch!

Unbelievable!

;) Cheers!
