Djerdap Gorge, the best possible place to control land and water ways down the Danube. That's why in the ancient times, Romans started building a fortress at this spot of strategic importance. The majority of the fortress, as you can see it today, was built early in the XIV Century.Windmills on the left bank of Danube belong to Romania.

Ђердапска клисура, најбоље могуће место за контролу земаљских и водених путева уз Дунав. Из тог разлога су у давна времена Римљани започели изградњу тврђаве на овом месту од стратешког значаја. Највећи део тврђаве какву данас видите, изграђен је почетком XIV века.Ветрењаче на левој обали Дунава припадају Румунији.

Beautiful shot! It's too bad they put the windmills there, though it sort of combines the old with the new. Who built the 14th century parts? That looks like a fascinating place to visit. I bet the fortress provides some amazing views, too :-)
