Famous icon or above water freeway? Depends if you are a commuter or tourist. The Golden Gate Bridge is not exactly a golden color as you may have noticed. I would consider it more of a brick red. It is named that way because it is the entrance to Gold Country. The gateway to gold in other words. If you are traveling via boat and you pass under the bridge from the Pacific you are entering the San Francisco Bay. I sometimes feel spoiled by the fact that I live in such a beautiful place. It is definitely a trade-off based on the high rents but its hard not to feel appreciative and awestruck when driving over the GGB.
