A Different Light Shines Through Fanad Head Lighthouse

180220-irl-dl-011.jpg

The lighthouse at Fanad Head, Co. Donegal, is one of the most iconic on the Irish coast. The beautiful white tower and well-maintained dwellings set against the grassy headland play a big part in that. It also presents a beautiful aspect from the landward side.

The lighthouse is a wonderful subject for aerial photography, as from the land there are a limited number of viewpoints. The aerial dimension adds huge freedom of choice to the photographer.

On this evening, I placed the setting sun behind the lantern—an alternative to the usual light that shines through it.

If you look carefully, you can see some local fishermen at work on the landing to the left of the tower.
