[EN] We are going to France! Visiting Gujan-Mestras. Part I

in landscapephotography •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello everyone! After a few weeks of non-stop travel and picture taking, which I love, I finally have a little time in front of the computer to show you, in a more extensive way, the places we pass on our way. Since lately, I've been doing everything from the mobile through the Steepshot app. To which I am very grateful despite all its failures and how desperate it can be sometimes.
Our route through the Basque Country was incredible and very productive. It gave me the opportunity to explore one of the areas of Spain that I wanted to know more about and gave us time to tie up some loose ends before leaving the country. With everything ready and full of hope we left for France.

On the first day of the trip we reached the border and found an ideal picnic area to spend the night. I do not have many photos of the place because we arrived at night and the next day, after having a coffee, we started again. But it was a very quiet place, surrounded by nature and in which we made many dog friends who were loose in the area and were very sociable, so, we imagined that they should belong to the surrounding villages.

We went to an area of the map that we wanted to explore and, looking for a nice parking in which to wake up, we landed in Gujan-Maestras in the department of Gironde.

Gujan-Mestras is a commune in France with about 17 195 inhabitants. It is located in the south of the Arcachon Bay, in the county of Buch. Considered the capital of the Arcachon oyster culture. It hosts 7 ports around the bay, which are from west to east: the port of La Hume, the port of Meyran, the port of Gujan, the port of Larros (located in the “stores of Couach”, famous oyster farms) the port of the Canal, the port of the Barbotière and the port of La Mole.

Our parking was in the port of Larros. We parked the van at the entrance of the port, because there was a sign of prohibited the passage to unauthorized vehicles, and we went for a walk to know the place and find a supermarket to refill the refrigerator. We walked parallel to the train tracks, which was just in front, until we reached the urban center where we stopped to have a drink and continued the way.

This population is composed, for the most part, by beautiful houses full of details. All of them had their own name and it seemed that their owners made competitions to have the most beautiful and striking house in the place. It was impossible not to stop in front of them to admire the contrast of their colorful facades and their coquettish ornaments.

The way back to the port we did by the coast, the sun began to fall and the views were spectacular. We could not be happier to have chosen this destination, it was very different from everything we had seen so far. Although the abundance of nature and the diversity of this one reminded me a lot of the Biosphere Reserve that we visited in the Basque Country.

While we were returning to the van, we were only concerned about one thing: the amount of mosquitoes that should have been in the stagnant waters of the dock where we were parked, very close to the oyster department store, with the smell they gave off... Here comes the best of all, our only problem throughout the day turned into a finishing touch to end the day. But I'll tell you that in the next post!

I really like it when houses have personality. Too many places/suburbs these days are filled with cookie cutter homes that have no soul. It is also good to see when there are various elements combined in unique ways. Makes life more interesting :)
