Learning a new language is difficult thing to do especially when you are not in a contact with the native speaker. Just a couple of weeks before I decided to learn a new language. Mandarin is the most difficult language. I decided to learn Mandarin though it will take much effort and patience.

Chinese is a tonal language which makes it more difficult to learn. Currently, I started with Pinyin. Pinyin is the Chinese language phontetic system. There are four main tones which i find very similiar. You can pronounce ma in a four different way. Meaning of the word will be changed according to the tone.

Currently, I am using duolingo to learn some words and basics of Mandarin. Then I will Join a local class or if possible will go to China to learn Chinese. Without communicating with local speaker it would be even more difficult. Currently, I just know, "Ni hao" which means How are you?
