Pak Ou Caves, Laos

These sacred caves, that look over the Nam Ou River, date back thousands of years and are filled with over 4000 Buddha symbols. Over time more statues have been added and it has become a strong place of worship.

Due to my upbringing, it’s always been very familiar to burn candles and incenses and offer prayers in spaces like this but my experience here was tainted by the shear amount of people in the caves.

I always find it interesting to see how something so respectable can lose some of it’s weight when integrated into tourism.

Regardless, it was still a beautiful site to see, enriched with mysterious history.

I totally understand the feeling of wanting to be active but also incognito. A week with your dad would’ve been lovely. Btw I’d still love to catch up/do a collab. Feeling a little uninspired with my own creations of late.

There are a lot of great ancient buddhist statues in far eastern countries. I can't wait to visit some of the caves and see them for myself.
