The Gospel of John ends its story by explaining that Jesus, after being resurrected, appeared several times to his disciples to confirm them in the faith and prepare them for what would later be Pentecost, with the arrival of the Holy Spirit in tongues of fire.
According to the gospel of John, in one of these meetings, the disciples had gone out to fish in the Sea of Tiberias, and after a fruitless fishing during the night, Jesus waited for them on the shore at dawn. And it was there that in the presence of Jesus they made a great catch and the nets did not break.
After this event the gospel relates that Jesus ate bread and fish with his disciples. After eating, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him, because Peter had denied him three times when Jesus was brought before the High Priest before his crucifixion.
And after this, Jesus pronounced his last prophecy according to the gospel of John, announcing to Peter how he would die:
"Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go" John 21:18.
The truth is that the Book of Acts, which recounts the lives of the apostles and the development of the early Church after the miracle in Pentecost, makes no comment about Peter's death. The Book of Acts ends with the arrival of the apostle Paul to Rome, where according to the book he preached the gospel for a long time, in fact, Peter's preponderance as leader of the church is overshadowed by Paul at the beginning of his missionary journeys. But Christian tradition affirms that Peter died crucified during Nero's reign as emperor, face down, thus fulfilling Jesus' prophecy.
