SLC22-W5 "Gender Violence"

Hello friends and welcome to my article in this week edition of the SLC S22/W5 as organized by @anasuleidy I would be sharing my thoughts on the task given too.

"Please tell us if there is a special law in your country to protect women's rights and what is your opinion regarding this law"

The agency in charge for the protection of women's rights as regarding the law is the Women's Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) of 1999 It's special as it governs the protection of womens right and the law has stood the test of time amidst all odds. It is really a thing we all must recognize as a country too. Moreso, it is a non profit organization committed to increasing women's access to justice by actualizing women's legal rights in private and public places. It implements activities that contribute to electoral integrity convening townhall meetings anti corruption agencies and electoral management body.^source

Special features contained in the act are;

It crucially puts women agenda on the political parties agenda in 2019 and 2023 making women particularly ad intentionally part of political parties and actively contest in elections. Special organization has affiliation with law makers or legislative arm incorporating women's affairs into the law making policies.

Importantly, it mobilizes women's group and disability rights organizations to participate and advocate for open accountable electoral system. They build community advocacy for women affairs and electoral system. It is indeed a lifeline and a breathe of fresh air to the females gender as it has opted for their participation in politics.

"Please state whether you consider this law to be effective and whether it does not violate the principle of equality before the law enjoyed by both men as women"

This law is quite effective as it is seen today in our country. We have been known for long time to have a one sided gender ruling the nation and occupying prestigious positions in the country. It is really difficult for women to rear their head in politics prior to now.

However, the good news is that about 10 years ago the first female contestants for a presidential election was noted and she finished a runner up alongside other men, although she didn't win, it brought joy and enthusiasm throughout the nation. She was indeed ambitious on her political career and it stirred grea reactions in the nations a great success to the woman fight.

Interestingly, 5 years back, a woman was given a political appointment as the Minister of Petroleum resources. It was a glad event and duly celebrated as we all could smile at the exodus of gender inequality in politics and indeed a breathe of fresh air.

From the highlighted lot as taught in class, I would definitely consider Harassment or bullying, Domestic Violence, Workplace Violence, Threat to life, should be duly prosecuted. I do not support domestic violence and any sort of such that would be inhumane against women.

"Have you or someone close to you been a victim of gender violence, what was the situation? Was the victim able to assert her rights? Do you think the law favored the victim"

Marriage is indeed a union between two gracious individuals who believe in themselves and finding love in each other and choosing to stay true to each other no matter the situation or circumstances. Mr. dele got married to Sandra, they lived each other finally ad decided to settle. Barely 6 months into the marriage a second mistress showed up, visiting the man and things got escalated. Mrs. Sandra saw the warning signs but never heeded them feeling they were ordinary friends.

It got intense and on this very da, she caught this mistress and her husband on her matrimonial bed! Hell was let loose, she reached for the kitchen and got a knife, it was too late at this point because she was way gone beyond all odds, she reached out to stab her husband on the chest but his fingers came in the way, he yelled and ran out yelling and bleeding so fast.

She got apprehended but the damage was already done, his fingers which had his wedding ring fell off before his eyes with his ring on the floor, he was pained and got rushed to the hospital, she got remanded in custody of the police and faced the full wrath of the law. Justice was served and she served jail time for the crime of threat to life

^{A thief arrives at a restaurant and subdues the customers there so they give up their belongings. A woman refuses to hand over her cell phone and money, instead she confronts the thief so he fires his firearm and shoots the aforementioned woman, causing her death.}source

The crime committed is not subject to only a woman but a huge crime against both gender. It should be registered as a homicide because robbery, public nuisance and legal actions should be implemented immediately.

PART 3 : Please state whether this is a crime of gender violence or common crime committed against a woman. Explain your answers.

^{After some time, a man began insulting his wife, telling her that she was not worthy as a woman. He humiliated her, not letting her work or go out, claiming that a woman belongs to the house and cannot go out without her husband's consent. One day, in the middle of the argument, the woman tried to respond to his insults and he beat her up, leaving her face with bruises.}source

This crime is against women, the woman right is denied and she is harassed. Domestic violence has been spotted in the scenario and indeed traes to crime against a woman. A case should be registered for crime and the perpetrators be brought to book. If she wished she can press charges further for divorce or seeing a therapist as a couple should be done.
