The law of Moses: By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess. Deuteronomy 32:47

The Book of Deuteronomy describes the last instructions of the prophet Moses before his death. The trip to Canaan was about to conclude and a new leadership had to begin, that of Joshua, who was in charge of beginning the military conquest of the holy land.
Moses, once the writing of the Book of Deuteronomy was finished, ordered the Book to be placed together with the Ark of the Covenant, to instruct the the nation in the fear of God, because without this spiritual gift, the whole law and the covenant are null. The fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability; and it is through this gift that men receive the common sense to solve problems and please God.
Moses knew the importance of the fear of God to instruct in the ways of God and he did not want the nation to be perverted by the love of money and idolatry, and this is what the prophet expressed about this fact with wise words in the Book:
"For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and arouse his anger by what your hands have made" Deuteronomy 31:29.
And so after teaching his devotional poem, he expressed with wisdom that the fidelity to the law is the source of the true life for the nation of Israel:
"When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, he said to them, ´Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess" Deuteronomy 32:45-47.
