Leaders vs politicians

Most countries are run by politicians and these countries seldom see good things come out of it or at least it is a false front. The politicians work for the corporations, not the public. They don't go into politics to help people but more to help themselves. Power can corrupt and usually does. We have seen countless number of politicians take bribes or work deals to benefit themselves or their cronies.
For a country to really see progress especially when it has gone through difficult times the country needs a leader to run the country rather than a politician. A good example is Philippines where the current president is Rodrigo Duterte who is not a politician by nature but a true leader who has an objective to clean up the country. Philippines was plagued with excessive crime, drugs and was extremely corrupt. The previous presidents were either corrupt or had no political will because they are just politicians looking after their own interest. Never once did they make a difference in their country's well being. Duterte on the other hand was a mayor in a small city that was infested with criminals and gangsters. He used the full power of the police to apprehend and end all crime in his city of Davao. The rest of the Philippines saw this change and everyone wanted him to run the country. Upon winning the election he took his actions further and cleaned up the country. His ways may be extreme but it worked and criminals are terrified of him. Philippines today is a safer place and foreign investment is coming in. This means more new jobs too and this helps the economy.
The US saw Duterte as a problem because he refused to bow down to their demands and started to play the human rights card. The worse thing about this is that US is run by politicians and none of them really made a difference in their country. Duterte refused to get involved in the political game the US was playing because he knew that over the decades Philippines got nothing out of providing a base for the US army.
China is another country that has a strong leader, Premier Xi has cut down corruption severely and has prosecuted and executed many corrupt officials. To the external observers they don't see it but what Xi did is to clean up a century old problem.
A real leader will make changes for the benefit of the public and not look to corporations. Too much manipulation has taken place in governments to benefit the corporations at the expense of the public.
